With 20,000 square feet of gallery space and over 15,000 works in the collection, there is always something new on view at the Farnsworth. The museum has one of the largest collections of works by sculptor Louise Nevelson. Its Wyeth Center features works of Andrew, N.C. and Jamie Wyeth. If one is interested in the Wyeth Family of artists this is a great place. On my recent visit there were some nice older works by Andrew Wyeth which were very different from his famous later style. Also some great illustrations by NC Wyeth and and Combined show of Rockwell Kent and Jamie Wyeth on Monhegan Island. All is not Wyeth, there was also a nice exhibit of family portraits from North Haven Island. Senior citizen admission only $10.

Not too big so as to be overwhelming, but just enough to do comfortably in one visit and make you feel a little exhilarated. Good stuff.

My husband and I returned to visit this fantAstic museum after we had last visited ten years ago.
So. Much has been added and the museum is very well designed and has so much fine art to share.
We first enjoyed a gallery of paintings by a artist who had vacationed in North Haven, Maine in the early 1900s. The views were wonderful in an impressionist vein.
The highlight was the Andrew Wyeth paintings, which are our favorites. He brought out the wonders of nature and the joys of a simple live in rural areas. Very pleasant.
There was a thoughtful video about Andrew and his life in Chadds Ford, Pa. It included his views on nature and his love affair with it.
We did not have time to visit the attached Wyeth Center or the Olson House but will return next year to see those attractions.
Another highlight of Rockland was a pleasant lunch at the Landings Restaurant within walking distance of the museum. There is a waterfront dock and absolutely delicious lobster roll sandwiches as well as other seafood specialties.
We summer in Readfield, Maine but do dat trips to the coast regularly and will return to Rockland as a destination in years to come.

This place has an outstanding collection for a very small museum, probably because so many wonderful artists lived and worked right here. Don't miss this museum!
