In early October I visited the Rangeley Lake area with my wife, her sibs and spouses and one of the best things that happened that week was this lake cruise. It almost didn't happen as the combination of rainy weather for 2 days and the gradual onset of cooler air almost derailed our long-sought-after trip; but Kevin and the Boss (his wife Doreen) graciously added us on to the end of a long day and we were the 4th trip out - you could tell in Kevin's cracked/hoarse voice that he needed a rest. But I think the REAL reason we were added was that the sweet honey of a little boat that we were on - The Oquossoc Lady - was being retired after this season and Kevin, the true Captain that he is, just had to take her out one more time. This cruise is so popular that they are having a larger boat built, as this dear little all-wooden craft with wooden canopy and supports only held the 6 of us and another couple. Kevin was great, a fount of knowledge about the area and its history, plus the foliage, the birds and fauna, though I WAS able to teach him an item about eagles he didn't know. But he took us to an island where he had seen an eagle earlier that day and sure enough, there it was, perched where we could clearly watch it for awhile before it flew away. And as we had timed our trip nearly perfectly as to peak leaf-color time, the views and scenes around the lake were just magical. Kevin told us, as we disembarked, that we most likely were the last group to go out on The Oquossoc Lady. We felt so privileged! But I would highly recommend this activity at ANY point of the year they were operating. Make the time, you'll love it!

Kevin did a great job with his tour. He kept us interested from beginning to end with all of his trivia questions. Would definitely go back when in Rangeley.

We had a wonderful boat tour of Rangeley lake on the Grey Ghost! Kevin shared lots of the history of the area as well as interesting information about the wildlife. We would highly recommend this tour not just for the scenery but also for all that we learned about this very special lake!

The boat trip was great. Kevin is very knowledgable and taught us a lot about the area and wildlife. The views were amazing and the fall foliage is not at peak yet. Doreen and Kevin are very nice and made this very enjoyable.

We went on the sunset pontoon cruise and it was wonderful! Our host Kevin was a great tour and very informative. We saw a beautiful sunset and loons. Great thing to add to your list of things to do on vacation!

This was my third or fourth trip to Maine, first to Rangeley region. Always beautiful and there’s always at least one moose to be photographed...no surprises there. But the lake tour on the Gray Ghost with captain/host Kevin WAS a very nice surprise! If you come to Rangeley region and only do one activity...make it this. If you don’t have a good time, there’s probably something wrong with you!

Visited Rangeley Lake region for two days to get away from the Florida summer heat and found it to be a lovely area. Asked our desk clerk for suggestions of things to do and right away she mentioned the Rangeley Region Lake Cruise. We called and booked two seats on their afternoon cruise (there is also a sunset cruise). Kevin booked it for us and immediately sent us a text with directions to the dock. When we arrived we were greeted by Doreen and after a brief narrative from Kevin about the area (complete with maps), we boarded his boat and left the dock. Kevin was very knowledgeable and told amusing stories and gave many informative facts about the lake, the wildlife and the area in general. A real treat was not only to see loons on the lake but to see an adult loon with it's baby in one of the bays. You could tell he really loves living there and sharing it with visitors. It happened to be a fantastic afternoon for being on the water. Warm, no wind and I think Kevin hated when it was finished as much as the rest of us. Highly recommend this cruise!

We really enjoyed this cruise. Of course we expected the scenery to be beautiful, but Kevin turned out to be a most informative and entertaining host and guide. We would definitely recommend this as something not to miss if you're in Rangeley.

This was the best thing we did in the Rangeley area.
Scenic, and informative.
Great cruise, great people.
If you can only do one thing, do this!
