I used to go to Hunter Cove as a kid, but it's been a while since I've been as an adult. The cabins are just as remembered...they are stocked with everything we needed (from soaps to a toaster to a corkscrew, and more) and there was plenty of room for three of us on a girls weekend.
We spent each morning on the screened-in porch, sitting in Adirondack chairs, drinking coffee and admiring the lake. When the rain set in, we ventured into downtown Rangeley and checked out the bowling alley (rivals anything I'd see in Boston), saw a movie, and did some shopping. Plenty to keep us entertained. And if the chill gets to be too much, our cabin (#5) had a big hot tub - nothing like a dip in bubbling, steamy water to warm us up.
The cabins are dog-friendly; ours even made friends with some of the folks in neighboring cabins!
I'd highly recommend Hunter Cove if you want a weekend (or longer) away. It's calm and relaxing, Chris and Ralph are wonderful hosts, and you feel welcomed from the minute you pull into the driveway. And, you can't beat the scenic drive through Maine in prime leaf-peeping season to get there!
