“Amazing Architecture”

Penobscot Narrows Bridge
Ranked #1 of 2 things to do in Prospect
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 19, 2013

This bridge is the most amazing one I have ever been in. You can go to the top of it and view the beautiful water and trees in Maine. The Penobscot River is amazing. A small fee gets you to the top of the bridge , you can stay as long as you like.

You see the top of the bridge as you are driving and there is a pull-over to get out of your car and read a little history about the bridge and take pictures. We are senior citizens and our gate entry was $8.00 to go up to the observation tower and to tour the fort. The views from the tower were beautiful on this clear fall day. We saw the surroundings as well as the fall foliage. The elevator ride is fast and smooth but you don't get that gravity sensation going up and down. There is a wheel-chair lift to the top and your ticket is time-stamped so the numbers are controlled.

If you are driving in this area, take time to marvel at this wonderful bridge. Bridges are fascinating engineering feats, and this one is no exception.

Even though it is a beautiful drive over this bridge - take the time to go up into the observation tower. Beautiful views. And while you're there, visit Fort Knox as well.

This is a WOW bridge. My sister and I visited it Oct. 9, 2013 and it was amazing. The park attendants were very nice and helpful. The elevator was quick. The observation tower is on the second floor but it was funny how long it took us to go from the first to the second floor. Not your typical floor levels. This bridge is not for those afraid of heights though. I have a little problem with heights but did it anyway. Even though you are entirely closed in by glass there was still some uneasiness. Well worth it though!
We also visited Fort Knox which is within walking distance. You can purchase a ticket for both the bridge and the fort or just either one. The fort was setting up a Halloween event and it looked like a lot of fun. It is a very interesting fort. There are some areas that are very dark so bring a flashlight but most of it can be done without. It is a great site!!
Not sure if both are wheelchair accessible so I would check out the web site.
