“Cool Place to Wander”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

This fort is quite large and has many hallways and rooms. It is fun to explore. It is a good idea to bring a flashlight with you. Also make sure and read the information about the fort at the information building before you go to the fort. It makes the experience even more meaningful.

“Nice Historical Fort”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

Unlike a lot of historical exhibits, this one gives you mostly unfettered access to the entire fort. You can take your time to explore it and even bring a picnic lunch to enjoy while you sit high over the harbor and soak up the summer sun. Quite a few stairs, not a lot of safety railings and the like. You need to be in reasonably good condition and be wearing comfortable walking shoes. Great learning experience for an inquisitive and well supervised child

“Worth the stop”
Reviewed June 28, 2013 via mobile

Eye opening if you take time to wander where the troops lived and slept. Beautiful location. Steep steps at times. Areas available for those who wish to sit and wait. Restrooms on site. Well maintained.

“Historic, interesting and fun!”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

We (three late-fifties women) spent way more time here than originally planned because this place is fascinating. Take the very informative tour. Bring a flashlight for the darker areas. Kids will love wandering around. Be sure to climb up to the top and take time to just sit and look across the Narrows at a quintessential New England town and get a different perspective on the bridge. One of the best bargains around, purchase the ticket that includes entrance to the neighboring Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory.

“Beautiful historical site with a fabulous view”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

This fort is well worth a visit of you like history. The fort and grounds can be explored easily. The views from the top of this site are breathtaking. The fort was never actually used but is well preserved for historical purposes. There is a nice area with picnic tables on the grounds.
