This is one of only two in the world(the other is in Sweden,I believe)and the only one to scale in terms of both size and distance. It was done by HS students and their teacher. These kids are the future!GREAT stuff and free! It's spread out over 45 miles and you need to be alert for the small planets!

We knew about this scale model and had such fun watching for each planet. We were amazed at how long it took to travel between the outer planets and how fast the inner planets came up. Also amazed at the size difference between the outer and inner planets with the later being about the size of the moons around the outer planets. We stopped to take pictures of each one with us reaching Mercury at dark. It was like we were time traveling to the end of the solar system as we know it with the sun winking out at the end of our journey. I loved the art work on Jupiter. Quite amazing. Bravo to all those who put this together. It was indeed a treasure hunt.

Recently traveled from Presque Isle through Houlton as part of a much longer trip. Even though the Solar System slowed us down some, as we stopped to take a few pictures along the way, it did liven up the ride quite a bit. Of course is is impressive to appreciate the scale of it all (the model itself and the planetary system it portrays) but is also just a classic piece of roadside fun. Why not get your picture taken with Saturn? Especially for the smaller planets it is a kind of roadside hunt that will keep any kid busy as well as older kids such as myself.
So this is not a big deal and is unlikely to show up in anyone's bucket list. It appeared to me that the planets could use a little bit of maintenance here and there. But it is very nice, worth knowing about, and something you can tell your friends about after the trip. Thanks to the people who created this model and maintain it.
