Yes, I know, it is a Holiday Inn. But one of the nicer ones I have stayed at. You must get a window looking out onto the harbor. We have stayed there many times over the past few years. Sometimes the weather was so bad we couldn't get out of the hotel. No problem. We just pulled a chair up to the windows! It is like sitting on your front porch watching the world float by. Bring binoculars!
Try not to eat in the restaurant though. There are so many really great places to eat that are within walking distance. That said, if you get snowed in as we once did, it is OK to eat there.
Try to see who and what is going on across the street at the arena before you book. Some events draw a rowdy crowd.
Oh and FREE PARKING! None of the other pricey/trendy hotels have that!

Stayed for one night in Portland after a long drive. Hotel was a 8-10 minute walk to the main downtown strip. Free parking and everyone was nice. The hotel was a little expensive for what it is but we had a good night sleep.

Have always stayed at the Eastland Park in Portland, but decided to give this a try as the rate was better & parking was free. Also a bit closer to Old Port. So glad we did! We got a beautiful room on the 11th floor, with great views, & huge flatscreen TV. WIFI worked perfectly..loved the Keurig coffemaker. Free coffee & lemonade in lobby 24/7. Signed up for Holiday Inn priority club & got a nice goody bag upon check-in. Also, was offered free water for our trip home. Didn't want the big breakfast, so I asked if I could just purchase some pastry from their buffet to take back to the room. No problem & they only charged my room $3.20 for 3 yummy mini-muffins & 2 donuts....so don't hesitate to ask. This particular hotel has customer service down pat. This has become our new home when in Portland.

On a recent road trip Down East, we thought it was terrific stop. Room was quiet and clean, good walking distance to Old Port. Staff was friendly. At breakfast (which was delicious), there was a fire alarm and we had to go outside. Upon returning, they comped everyone's breakfast. They have the customer service thing down...down east!

My husband and I stayed here for a night on our first visit to Portland. We arrived right at check-in time (4pm) and were told our room was not ready, luckily we only had to wait about 10 minutes. Our room was a corner room on 4th floor, very quiet and quite spacious. Decor was a little dated, but the room was clear. Great location to Old Port as long as you don't mind a little bit of a walk. I would stay here again.

We were looking for a moderate location in Portland. Nothing spectacular but it was decent. It's located in the Arts District but the fun restaurants and shops are a bit farther away than expected, but still a very walkable distance. The front desk went out of their way to be helpful.

If you go, sign up for the Holiday Inn Priority Club ahead of time. They give you a little welcome bag. The coolest part -- a Maine lottery ticket is included!

We arrived late afternoon & checked in very quickly. Reception staff were exceptionally helpful and gave us a map of the area. Sadly, just as we were about to park in the underground parking, a notice was put up saying it was full but alternative parking was available just down the street. That turned out to be much more acceptable as we had a full sized car, and apparently the underground parking does tend to be a bit tight for space. The room was fabulous with a brilliant ever-changing view. Coffee & Tea maker in the room, comfy bed & pillows, noisy a/c though.... and we did find the shower head to be too low for people who are over 6 feet tall (it required a lot of knee bending!). Very pleasant Reception staff gave us water for our ongoing journey. Portland is a great place, and we would certainly come back to this hotel in the future.
