Very disappointed with the condition of the room. Extremely strong smell of spray disinfectant, outdated/scratched furniture, wallpaper border torn, ancient whirlpool tub. Carpet dirty around edges. We are not picky people but this was not a good place to stay. The location was however good.
Needs lots of updating/cleaning.

My wife and I have stayed at the Howard Johnson Plaza on Riverside Street many times and will continue to do so. We especially like their park and fly service. We leave our car in the back parking lot and take their van to the Portland Jetport. On this particular trip we stayed the night before our departure and were up to take the 4am van to the airport. The van was on schedule and the service was great. Upon our late evening return 10 days later, their van was unavailable, so we took a cab as they instructed and they reimbursed us in cash upon check in. When we got to our room, we inspected it carefully, as we do every hotel/B&B room before we unpack, and the bed was not acceptable. Back at the front desk, the staff apologized and immediately put us in another room on a different floor and this room was fine. My wife and I will continue to stay here when we're flying out of Portland, but as always, we will continue to check our room and our bed carefully before unpacking.

This motel was recommended to us by friends who are very frequent travelers. The airport pickup, coupled with the parking while we were gone, was an excellent service that relieved us of many of our travel problems. The staff was excellent in assisting with all this.

It starts with the engineering of the driveway, too many useless roads that make the entry too cluttered. The entry into the hotel is decent, yet not elegant in any way. Staff was nice during check in and provided everything need including wifi passwords and coupons for the restaurants. You then walk through the 1970's decor hallways with old musty carpet. As soon as you get to your room and open the door, the smell of smoke and moldy air hits you in the face. The bathroom had mold all over the caulking and the tub you felt like you would fall through the bottom of it. There is no room to put anything in the bathroom, no counterspace or anything. The sliding door for the bottom floor room, has a lock on it that was broken but helping to secure the sliding door. If someone wanted to break into the room they could with a little extra pulling effort.

The beds were extremely uncomfortable and your feet were higher then your head. The TV sitting on the bureau was lower then the feet of the bed. So if you wanted to watch TV you needed to sit up in bed and can't lie down comfortably in order to watch the TV.

The hallways are dark and dreary and not very bright either with light or color.

Another issue was the Wi-Fi - It is free with a password, but it doesn't stay connected. So in order to try to get things done on your laptop it was practically impossible as there wasn't the needed availability. When asked the front desk told me that there were a lot of guests and that is most likely the problem. If that is the case, UPGRADE your internet to go with your services.

I would never return to this hotel and would ask that you think about what you are looking for in a hotel before you consider this place.
