We opted to lower our standards and search for a less expensive motel than we normally book, and we were rewarded with a pleasant surprise at this particular Howard Johnson. The motel is an older facility, but it is clean and modern. It has one of the nicer pools I have been in, and puts some of the more expensive hotel pools to shame. The one disappoint we experienced was that the facility offers a private patio off the first floor rooms, but they did not have any seating there. We alternated between sitting on our cooler and bringing the desk chair outside. Upper floors have private balconies, but I do not know if there are any chairs on those.

The room was a nice size and clean. Plenty of room for child's pack an play. We stayed one night in a king bed room. The bed was very comfortable and had plenty of pillows. Was a good night sleep. Felt very rested in the morning. Would stay there again.

Needed a hotel near Portland for just one night and chose this hotel based on price, location and Trip Advisor reviews. The lobby and hall ways were clean and well maintained. There was a computer in the lobby for guest use. Our room was good sized, clean, and comfortable. We slept well on the bed. There was only one bedside table. The other side of the bed had very little space between the bed and the wall. A little more room and a table or shelf would have been good. The bathroom looked newly renovated with granite countertops, new sink and faucets. We heard no noise overnight. On our arrival we were supplied with the code for the wifi access. We didn't use the gym or the pool so can't rate either one. There were two attached restaurants, one for breakfast and lunch and the other for dinner. We were given a 20 percent off coupon for dinner but did not eat there. Breakfast, not included in the room rate, was OK. My only real complaint is the open area near the elevator. It gives the appearance of being the storage area for the hotel - boxes and cleaning carts made me think we had taken a wrong turn ending up in a work area. All in all the hotel was fine for a one night visit to the area and I would stay here again if the need arose.

The front desk could take lessons from the housekeeping staff regarding manners, friendliness and how to accommodate guest. The desk personnel bordered on rudeness, nastiness and lack of interest concerning things related to guests. Very upset about coupon for room reduction not honored. If you aren't going to honor them take them out of travel books. False advertising. Great place for pet, unfortunately we won't be coming back. Should have coffee available to guests. You promote Egg & I, biggest rip-off ever when it comes to Coffee. Thumbs up to housekeeping, thumbs down to management!!!!!

Location is right off the highway and about 10 minute drive to the Old Port of Portland. Rooms were comfortable and fairly clean. Staff was nice. Nothing fancy but fine for a one night stay. The bathrooms needed updating, they were a bit tired. Otherwise the stay was fine for just one night.

Room Tip: The bathrooms were tired and needed updating. Sinks were chipped, ceiling tiles needed to be change...
