“Great hotel in Portland, ME”
Reviewed December 23, 2013

Awesome staff, clean and quiet rooms, great evening reception. The restaurant was good if you don't feel like heading out. The rooms are very updated and even the coffee in the room was good. Easy to get to off of Maine Turnpike and near the Portland Jetport.

Four of us (2 adults, 2 kids, aged 5&7) spent 3 nights at the Embassy Suites over Thanksgiving, and the hotel, staff, and service was great. The location is what it is - at the airport, which is fine since it's only a few minutes to downtown Portland. Not fully convenient, but not really a big inconvenience either.

The great thing about Embassy Suites is that you get a suite, and you don't worry that some other hotel that claims to have a 'suite' is actually selling a normal room that has a few more square feet, but no separate room. Parents out there all get this, right?

The room was very nice, kids slept on the pull out sofa, we were in the bedroom, and when they woke up and played, we still slept. Magnificent! The room was super clean, bed was more comfortable than most, there is a refrigerator in all the rooms, and we had a nice view of the runway at Portland airport (no noise of note, but there was not exactly a lot of air traffic when we were there).

Breakfast was included, and although the place was packed with families, there was plenty room to find a table between restaurant and lobby seating, and Andrew cooked up some great omelets at the omelet bar. Similarly, the pool and whirlpool were great, and they have a nicely full sized gym - a nice plus from usual tiny closet stuffed with a few treadmills at many hotels. Parking was plentiful, and if it's full in front, you can park all the way in back and enter the lobby via the back door (with your key after hours)

The only really downside was that, relative to a "classic" original Embassy Suites, this location was downsized. Compared to the ones we have stayed in in California, Northern Virginia, and elsewhere, this one was newer but smaller in every dimension. Smaller lobby, no great atrium, smaller breakfast / restaurant areas, and slightly smaller rooms. It felt like the accountants came through and trimmed a little off everything to save a few dollars.

All of us fans of Embassy Suites should let the corporate beancounters know that we have noticed the cutback! And we are not exactly pleased.

A great hotel, but given it's not quite the full, normal Embassy Suites size, we might just try a hotel in downtown Portland next time.

Dear BeantownBriggs,

Thank you so much for your detailed review from your stay with us last month. I love to hear specifically how we are doing well and where we can make improvements. I really appreciate you mentioning the staff and that you thought overall the stay was great. While we are smaller then a standard Embassy Suites, we deliver the same value as our sister hotels. I hope you will again consider us on your next trip to Portland.

Thank you again for choosing our hotel and I hope you have a wonderful holiday and Happy New Year.

Best Regards,

Hotel is close to airport with on demand shuttle service. Accommodations comfortable , breakfast bar serviced dietary needs for altered diets. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The lobby is not built around a courtyard but very cozy for a winter climate with a beautiful fireplace. I was very satisfied and the heat worked well!

Dear Gail G,

Thank you for your 5 star review from your recent stay with us! We really appreciate your feedback and are pleased to hear you enjoyed the fireplace in our atrium. That is a very popular spot in the cold and on snowy nights! I hope we will see you again soon the next time your travels bring you to the Portland area.

Best regards and have a wonderful holiday season!

We only stayed one night for the convenience of being close to airport and it was a nice surprise that our car rental return was right across the street. Embassy did a nice job with their updates and renovations to this hotel. The rooms, plus all the amenities that they offer from full cooked to order breakfast to managers reception were exceptional. Many Embassy hotels are in need of an overhaul, but this one has been very pleasantly updated and attends to their guests with superb service . The rooms were very clean which I appreciate ! Whether it be one night or longer you will not go wrong at this hotel. They aim to please-we highly recommend this Embassy.

Decided to stay here so we could leave our car at the hotel while we were gone for a week. Friendly folks at the desk suggested a nice place to get dinner since we wanted to go out after enjoying the manager's reception in the lobby. They knew what they were talking about - we had a very pleasant evening. Fine night's sleep in a comfortable bed. Nice clean bathroom. Had to leave early the next morning, but the continental breakfast got the morning started right. Our shuttle driver was courteous and prompt and dropped us at the terminal.

Our return a week later went smoothly with the hotel van picking us up at the terminal shortly after we had called to let the desk know that we had arrived. When we got the the hotel, our car was waiting out front so we were able to take off for home right away. Couldn't have asked for better service. However, it turned out that we got it anyway.

We were kind of tired after traveling all day, so I missed a key piece of our luggage when we exited the van. The two suitcases and backpacks were retrieved from the back, but the small travel guitar I had placed on the back seat got left. Since I don't play that particular guitar too often, I didn't miss it until a month after our trip. As we were headed for Portland in a couple of days, we decided to stop at Embassy Suites to see if the guitar had been turned in. Stacy, the manager on duty, was more than happy to make a couple of phone calls and found the guitar in the lost-and-found room. Talk about impressive! Couldn't be happier with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff at this nice place. We'll certainly be back for future stays.

Oh, and a note to self - put some identifying info in the guitar case.

We were here for a hockey tournament with several families. The hotel was very accommodating. Wonderful evening reception and full breakfast. Many options to choose from, eggs, made to order omelets. Room was spacious and comfortable. Would definitely return. Location was good. Right near the airport.
