“Comfortable coffee shop with a relaxed local vibe”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

Stopped by here while wandering around Portland for the first time and had a very enjoyable caffe caramel while relaxing by a sunny window. The staff here was both efficient and friendly and the crowd seemed to consist of mostly locals getting work done on their laptops. Overall it was a really nice place to step away from the touristy side of portland

“Good product, Warm atmosphere”
Reviewed June 20, 2012

Portland has many good local coffeehouses, so there are many places to choose from, and I do visit a number of them. I'd say that my favorite is this place. Its location on the corner of Free and Cross Streets adjacent to the Old Port is an ideal downtown spot. There's lots of light, and the room is spacious with varied sitting spaces. There's local art on the walls. I like to sit on a stool in the window overlooking the square, which is great for people-watching and for spreading-out my newspaper to read. The place is popular and has a mixed clientele (suits to skateboard dudes), but its not snooty. The staff are friendly and competent.

Almost without variation I order my everything bagel: toasted dark w/butter and cream cheese, and a Milky Way latte. The coffee drink is yummy and it comes served in a ceramic cup and saucer w/demi-spoon, and a heart-shaped froth design on top. I don't know how they do that, but it always impresses me. Most times they get it just right. But every so often the bagel is under-toasted, and last time I had to go up to the counter to ask for butter. That time I also ordered a bowl of potato leek soup. It came with a nice white bread on side plate, but without a saucer. For $4.75 it was a good deal, and the soup was hearty and flavorful.

Despite the occasional small mistake, I really like this place and would recommend it. They have a restroom for customers, and offer free wifi (I think), but they are not open in the evening.

“Excellent Coffee in a nice atmosphere”
Reviewed May 22, 2012

Around three years ago Arabica three doors down Free St. from their old dark space to new spot on the corner. The new space has big windows in the front and sides and the light streaming in on the brick and wood interior give it a very warm feeling. It's location is about two blocks from the Old Port, but worth the short walk.

The coffee at Arabica is excellent, both in the cup and by the pound. In fact, I even have friends from Boston who always leave Portland with a couple pounds after a visit. The lattes are especially nice, a good balance of foam, milk and coffee, although depending on who is making it, they can be a bit to hot for my taste.

Arabica has an OK selection of tasty baked goods, which I believe come from Standard Baking, but the true draw is the toast, yes I said toast. Stuck to the register will be a small laminated sign that will indicate which kinds of bread they have that day, and there are usually two choices. The bread range from the obvious, white and wheat, the Maine influenced, Potato and Oat to whatever they have that day. They bread is sliced thickly, toasted to perfection and coated with a generous helping of already melted butter. It's a simple pleasure, but a pleasure nonetheless.

“Love coffee? You will love Arabica”
Reviewed May 1, 2012

The best coffee in the western hempishere?

I would say YES!

We enjoy having a cup or two while waiting for our several pounds of take home.

Have never tasted better coffee.
