“Quirky, interestingand friendly Pomegranate Inn in Portland Maine.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013

The Pomegranate Inn is an excellent B&B in a great location among beautiful homes at the western end of the Downtown Portland peninsula. The rooms are decorated in a quirky and interesting way that works very well. The managers are very friendly and helpful and provide an excellent breakfast. There are no room fridges but a shared fridge is available in the guests common loungevroom.

There are some excellent restaurants within easy walking distance, my favoirite being Caiola's in Pone Street - great fresh food presented with simple flavours and cooked to perfection.

Room Tip: The top floor rooms are not suitable for the very old or infirm.

Thank you for your visit and your kind words. We are pleased that you enjoyed our quirky and art-filled inn and the excellent breakfasts prepared by henrY and Erin. It's also nice to hear that our suggestion of Caiola's worked out well for you for dinner.

As can be seen from the website, the decor is very quirky - but everything has been done tastefully and a lot of work has clearly gone into getting it right. Room (number 4) was very spacious with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was well prepared and if excellent quality. While there is a large table for eight, anyone wishing privacy at breakfast can get in sharp for one of the smaller tables for two; however, conversation over breakfast can be very pleasant. Only downside is distance from Portland centre, which is a good thirty minute walk away.

We think our quirky style works, too! We are so glad you enjoyed the eclectic elegance of our unique Portland inn. Sounds like you made the most of your stay. We're pleased that you found the bed comfy and savored the wonderful breakfast prepared by henrY and Erin. They are quite talented in the kitchen. While the Old Port is about a half-hour walk away, we hope you also explored the Arts District, which is only a 10 minute stroll from the inn. Please think of us again if your travels bring you back to New England.

Recently, I was surprised with a trip to Portland and most importantly a stay at the Pomegranate Inn. Upon arrival Sunday evening the inn appeared inviting and intriguing.

The interior of the inn immediately revealed that we had found something special. The eclectic mix of furnishings and art work set the stage for what was a magical stay. Our room was located in the adjacent and very private carriage house (#7). The room size was perfect and even though it was June we managed to use the fireplace. The bathroom was luxurious with a beautiful leaded glass window and the patio was private and welcoming.

The breakfast was unique and satisfying. Service was polite and at the perfect pace for mid morning. Items were presented well and it was clear attention to detail was paid to everything that came out of the kitchen. In fact, Erin and henrY are so thoughtful that they provided breakfast at our doorstep one morning when we were not quite able to make it to the main building in time for the scheduled serving. It was a welcome touch and will be long remembered by us both.

The location of the Inn allowed us to walk to downtown and in the evenings, after dinners, take a quick $6 cab ride back to our little hide-away.

I was fortunate enough to experience the Pomegranate Inn while traveling with the long time love of my life. As she is clearly spoken for - I can only encourage anyone thinking about visiting Portland to also stay at the Pomegranate Inn. Best wishes in doing so and may your stay will be as magical as ours.

It was a pleasure to help you celebrate your birthday, and we are pleased that it was so special. The Pomegranate Inn is a lovely and unique place and we are glad you connected to its arty vibe and enjoyed the hospitality of Erin and henrY. They are quite skilled in the kitchen, and providing a truly memorable breakfast experience is all part of the service at our Portland boutique B&B. Overall, I have to say this is by far the youngest crowd I have ever seen at a B&B. My husband and I are in our 30s and we are usually the only people still working 40 hours a week when staying at a B&B on vacation - HA!

Ambiance: This place is funky and fun.
Location: On the West End. You can walk (~1 mile) to Old Port which is what we did every night. It's an easy stroll and will be much needed after you eat until your gills are full.
Innkeepers: Very kind and polite. Helpful with dinner suggestions and places to visit.
Breakfast: AMAZING! It was served in 3 courses. No disappointment here.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 6 because it was the end of our trip and we were trying to conserve costs. After s...

Pomegranate Inn is every bit a fairy-tale bed and breakfast. The rooms are warm and inviting with eclectic, yet tasteful designs. We stayed in room #8 which is described as the master suite of the property. The decor is really what attracted me to this bed and breakfast. I've never seen anything like it. Yet, it somehow retains it's old-world charm. The bed was very comfortable. The room was very light and airy. The master bathroom was spacious and had a tub/shower combo. We at first thought there was only one other couple staying in the property, but lo and behold, there were at least 8 guests staying at the same time. It just goes to show how quiet the property is and how well-behaved the guests are. The breakfast was a delicious 3-course meal. It was welcome treat after eating restaurant food for 4 days in a row. I can't say enough positive things about Pomegranate Inn. I only wish we had more time to truly relax and enjoy this treasure in Portland.

Room Tip: Room #8, the master suite, is very spacious with a lovely sitting area and spacious bathroom with tu...

Pomegranate is like staying in an art gallery or museum. It has an amazing decor and is extremely comfortable, spacious and homey. We loved the breakfast and the location is ideal. Very near the arts district and within walking distance to the harbour front.

Room Tip: We had Room 8. It's very spacious, some others were a lot smaller.

For those of you who have had previous stays at the Pomegranate Inn with hosts Dana and Greg, I can assure you that you won't be disappointed with the new hosts. Erin and henrY are warm, gracious, helpful, and eager to offer guests a memorable stay. Erin does most of the cooking, and it is just as delicious as the breakfasts that Dana created. You are offered three courses; a beautiful fruit dish, a homemade pastry, and then a choice of two different entrees. We stayed three nights and every morning meal was different. There is also plenty of juice and coffee.
The carriage house on the first floor (#7) has a wonderful, cozy room with a gas fireplace and small flat screen TV. There is bottled water left every day, and fresh baked cookies with tea each afternoon in the main house. It's a wonderful place to relax and use as a springboard for all that Portland has to offer. We give the Inn an A+!

Room Tip: The carriage house has a lovely room on the first floor, with a gas fireplace and it is very quiet.
