I'd been researching quirky, cool, affordable hotels in the area, but for being a trendy, hip, city, Portland, Maine doesn't have a lot of cool places to stay, except Pomegranate.
Pomegranate only has a handful of rooms (8-12), the online booking was extremely simple and easy which was great. They even send you a reminder email if you want any perks, like chocolate strawberries waiting in your room when you arrive.
Our room was smallish, but gorgeous. Comfortable bed, great shower, the thing that makes up for the small rooms is the coziness of the entire house. You can read and drink coffee in the living room which is great, you're surrounded by nice, quiet people. The entire vibe is quirky and quaint.
The location is also amazing, walking distance to Local 188 (my favorite restaurant in the city) and the Portland Museum of Art.
The breakfast is really the highlight, you have to wake up a bit early, but it really was amazing. Probably the best frittata I've ever had.
It seems like the place is meant for couples, and older individuals, which is fine. But if you're in your twenties and want a "rowdier" environment, this is not the place.More
