Located in one of Portland's elegant neighborhoods, this inn is a huge treat. One's senses are tickled upon entering: the architecture, color, forms, design, smell of baking. There are delightfully sunny sitting rooms for lounging and the bedrooms are charming.

I liked the third floor with no one staying above me.

We were warmly greeted and given a brief tour. The room was cozy, as we booked one of the smaller rooms on the third floor, so we took advantage of the sitting room at the end of the hall. Communal dining at breakfast - the food was tasty and company varied. We did walk to all of our dining, shopping, and sightseeing stops - which is doable if you've got the right shoes. We ate at Caiola's and Fore Street. Would recommend both!

Loved all the art and the unique bedrooms. The breakfast was outstanding. Portland was a big surprise and we would definitely stay here again. It is not in the wharf area, so you do need a car to get around.

We're staying in Room 4, where the blind was already being replaced at noon yesterday. Today's visitors were delighted to be here, most of them for at least the second time. We love the eccentric decor and the ebullient innkeeper.

We found the inn to be visually appealing and the staff to be polite however that was the best part of our stay. We stayed in room #8 and the bed was totally broken down; we actually slept on one side of a king size bed to keep from rolling off. The box springs were visually broken down. For breakfast we had fresh fruit (although not enough had been cut for all guests who had come down for breakfast), bacon and waffles and yes they ran out of maple syrup... seriously... we paid almost $300 for this room and we didn't have a comfortable bed and just a marginal breakfast. The young staff was polite but really indifferent to the issues. And yes free parking but not easy to find, but that was expected.

My husband and I just took over the inn April 2010 and appreciate your comments. As former innkeepers, we understand the impact of providing quality service all around. We have gone through these reviews in hopes we can address all concerns and have since replaced the mattress, all window blinds in the room as well as many other small repairs that were necessary throughout the entire inn. We hope you will consider staying with us again.
