“Unusal tapas”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2013

We went here to have tapas, but they have traditional full dinners as well. The tapas were great. Scallops ceviche was unbelievably good. Naan/Hummus was excellent. It was a somewhat noisy and so we couldn't really talk very much, but still enjoyable.

“Great eating spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013

Try the Paella -- either the traditional version, or their seafood version, but one order is plenty enough for 2 people; don't order 2. Also some very creative, unusual appetisers; try the chicken livers. Yummy.

“Excellent!”

We love to local 188. The place is really fun and happening. The food was also delicious and the service was very good. We enjoyed a bunch of things there including a fabulous cheeseboard, The best naan I've ever had, scallops, and a fantastic salad. Loved it here. Highly recommend. It's one of the restaurants in Portland.

“Dissapointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2013

I really wanted this to be a great place after reading good reviews in Fodor's and trip adviisor. We were there on a Monday night and it was busy-good sign. We ordered drinks and appetizers-Chicken liver, spreadable cheese, and hummus/nann. The Nann and hummus was delicious. The first sign of trouble was when the waitress got my husband's basic Hendrick's Martini order wrong. But, no worries, we are ok with a small mistake like that. However, there was no apology!! And, when there was more than 1 fly circling our table, again, no apology or offer to move us. Yuk. We ordered dinner as well-Hanger steak, gniocci, and house paella. Very good entrees. The house paella was huge-big enough for 2 easily. So, what was the issue? The waitress. She was "edgy" and not friendly at all. She kept calling me "honey" and I am not old enough yet for that (I am 45!). Plus, she didn't anticipate any needs-didn't ever re-fill waters, didn't ask my son why he didn't touch the lemon soda from maine (yuk), etc. When she presented the dessert menu she put the menu in front of my face without explanation. It was plain rude. Our total bill for 3 was $145. Not sure if I would go back with that level of service. Might sit outside and have a glass of wine or 2 but not spend money on the food with crappy service.

“Great place to eat!”

During our short stay in Portland, our B&B host suggested Local 188. My husband and I both ordered the special, grilled salmon. The food was excellent and the staff was friendly.
