Owner description: Lucky Catch Cruises offers 1 1/2 hour lobstering excursions in Casco Bay, Maine. The tours depart from Long Wharf in Portland and operate from the first weekend of May through the last weekend of October. A typical lobster excursion involves pulling eight traps near scenery such as the Portland Headlight Lighthouse, Civil War Fort Gorges and the Seal Rocks. Lobsters can be purchased after the tour for a discounted price and brought to the restaurant next door for cooking. We limit the number of passengers on each boat, so please call ahead for reservations. All the best from Maine!

Fun and interactive tour. Lots of information about catching lobster and beautiful lighthouses and landmarks. Best part was eating the lobster we caught!

We were in Portland, Maine, this month for our anniversary. We’re SO GLAD we joined Tom and Brian on the Lucky Catch! They are passionate about lobster fishing and Maine… and it makes for a great experience that we will always remember! This is a unique, hands-on lobster fishing trip that everyone can enjoy (friends, couples, or families). They share great information, and make sure everyone gets to participate. We caught our lobsters and ate them at Portland Lobster Company within the hour. The Lucky Catch tour was absolutely awesome and highly recommended! Thank you for a great time! – Ed & Kelly, Michigan

This is a good tour to take when you want to see a lot of the lighthouses in Maine. It would be good to reserve in advance because this tour is always full.
Great photos can be taken in this tour.
It is nice to stay on the upper deck of the boat but it sometimes gets chilly.

Very fun and informative tour around Portland harbor. This is a hands-on tour where all the people on the boat don lobster aprons and gloves and get the whole lobster catching experience: baiting the trap, helping retrieve and replace the traps, measuring the lobster to make sure it's a keeper and banding the lobster's claws.

Our two lobstermen were very informative about the Maine lobster industry, describing how many traps can one have and how to identify your own, how to tell the sex of the lobsters, how the industry polices itself by requiring kept lobsters to be within certain lengths, and how to mark female lobsters who has eggs so the lobster population remains consistent. And much, much more.

$25 for 90 minutes of a very informative and fun trip. Don't miss it.

This was such a fun day! There were ten of us on this trip; aunts, uncles, cousins, parents and two young children (our grandchildren) ages 9 and 6. The weather was beautiful and Portland Harbor has many interesting sights, in addition to being able to see how lobsters are caught. There are lighthouses, the remains of an old fort and the skyline of Portland. Tom (the owner of the boat) and his two assistants were friendly and interesting and really good with the two grandchildren. They learned about lobstering, got to hold a lobster, bait the traps and push the traps overboard. They even got to wear official "lobstering" attire...yellow slickers and big yellow gloves. And the adults were encouraged to participate as well. I highly recommend this adventure for the entire family and I can't say enough about the crew. They were excellent.
