The Morrill Mansion is a three story mansion converted to a B&B on the west side of the city. We stayed one night and found the accommodations satisfactory. The rooms are well appointed with tasteful furniture and amenities like a refrigerator with water and a television with a dvd player. There is a common room on the second floor stocked with fruit and hot drinks and a dvd collection. Our room was on the third floor, had a nice view but it was a bit of a chore getting the luggage up. Stay on the second floor if you can unless you have missed a trip to the gym.
The place is a bit removed from the center of Portland. We walked down and cabbed back. The location makes for good sleeping but a bit far for touring the main sites.
Breakfast was very well done with portions of a variety of different meals in small ramakins as well as some home baked items. The host, David, is most friendly and available.
We would stay again even if we did not need the exercise.

I must add our huzzahs to the deafening chorus of praise heard on TA about this B&B. I won't add comments about the perfection of the decor and sparklling cleanliness, but just want to praise the attention to small things. Free water in the room, nice chocolates, beautiful wine glasses and ice buckets, spa quality shampoo and driers, overhead warmers in the bath, and the joy of coming home to homemade brownies or cookies with hot tea or coffee whenever you step into the communal living room. Also large coffee table art books to browse and racks of DVD's to take back to your room. Also baskets and chips and pretzels. This morning the breakfast buffet bordered on ridiculous. Homemade chocolate pudding, hot granola fruit crumble, LOBSTER and egg suffle, 5 choices of homemade pastry and bread, plus fresh fruit and god knows what else. I know it is homemade because you can see and smell it baking in the huge (spotless) kitchen off the buffet bar. David is always in motion, but is cheerful and full of friendly advice. His little dog Moby is awfully cute and cuddly; be sure to ask for petting privileges. Two minor points: not much happens before 8 AM so if you have an early ferry to catch make sure you have your keys on you or you will be locked out on the sidewalk. There is no decaf coffee, but I am sure if you brought some David would brew it for you. Note: the neighborhood borders the Art District which is way cool and bursting with ecentric music halls, shops, galleries, restaurants and characters: itis well worth exploring. We had drinks at the nearby Eastland Park hotel on the 13th floor with stunning panoramic views of Casco Bay, don't miss it.

I have nothing bad to report, and only good, from my stay at Morrill Mansion. The rooms are beautiful, tastefully decorated, up-to-date with fixtures, all with attached bathrooms, and very comfortable beds. The lounge area on the second floor works well, particularly given David's treats that always seem to be there. Breakfast was delicious. And David is the consummate host, always available, with knowledgeable tips on restaurants/sights to see, quick to address issues. A great B&B.

We planned a trip from Boston to Maine and had decided to stay in Portland for a night on our way to Acadia National Park. After much research (I do a lot) we decided to stay at the Morill Mansion. David, the inn keeper, was extrmeley cordial from the first call and even more so when we arrived. The Inn is in close proximity to downtown and the Portland Jetway.

All of the extra touches are here. Great quality coffee and teas to an amazing breakfast! David is not only a great host but a most excellent cook. There was a DVD collection to browse and watch, too.

We would highly recommend this spot to anyone staying in Portland!

We came to Portland for work and we like to opt for B&Bs whenever we can. In this case, not only was it less expensive than most other accommodations, but it was simply the best B&B we have ever stayed in.

We had previously spoken to the owner and arranged for a late arrival. We got in at 11pm and a welcome letter with keys were waiting for us, along with a plate of cookies in the lounge. The Mansion is close to the airport and has 8 on-site parking spaces. You walk up a small flight of stairs to the entry way and to the left is the breakfast room which serves from 8am-10am. The architecture is stunning and the decorating tastefully understated. Three rooms are located on the second floor with the remaining on the third level. We had a chance to peek into a few of the others and all were well appointed.

Our room, the Marston, is decorated in soothing green, silver, and gold tones - we would love the color pallet for our own bedroom. The bathroom includes a tub and basic toiletries. It is the first room on top of the stairs directly across from the common lounge where fresh baked good, coffee, tea, and chips are always available. The room is immaculate and is cleaned daily. It is probably the most noisy room in the Inn due the proximity to the lounge and stairwell, but we were not at all bothered.

The highlight of this inn is the breakfast. There is a small dining room with classical or jazz usic playing in the background. We had assumed from the descriptions that there would be the typical cereal, juice, hard boiled eggs, toast, yogurt, and fruit. There were. But add to that homemade custard, fresh granola over warm fruit, and buttermilk biscuit-egg souffles - each one changed daily and each one was spectacularly yummy. We were always the the first ones down at 8am which was great as the other guests seemed to come down around 9am.

This is THE place to stay in Portland.

What can I say that already isn't said here - the Morrill Mansion was a fabulous place for our stay this past weekend while visiting friends in Portland and checking out the old neighborhood.
David, the owner, is amazing at what he does, and kind and considerate - everything is well thought-out and well presented, from the breakfast buffet with egg souffles, fresh fruit and berry no-egg custard, to the freshly baked treats in the afternoon! The rooms are pleasant, the building renovated with such care and attention to detail, we were thoroughly impressed. The location is quiet and one can easily walk to the hip restaurants and music venues on Congress St.

A real charm of a place, and we will stay here next time we're in town - it is our new place to stay for a getaway in Portland!
