“Better than home!”
Reviewed July 7, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here over July 4th for 2 nights. Portland was roasting with temperatures in the 90's. We usually walk everywhere in a new city but this time it was too hot. The window air conditioner was amazing at cooling our room. The bed was clean and comfortable. Very large renovated bathroom with thick towels. Fridge with cold water in our room and lounge with 24 hour homemade snacks, coffee and tea. David, our host, very helpful with directions. Breakfasts were truly gourmet. And more than abundant. We loved the lobster soufflé and scones. Strong coffee much appreciated. This is a 5-star B & B. Off the beaten track is a PLUS...away from the gritty honky-tonk port area.

My husband and I are winding down a four-night stay at The Morrill Mansion, and we couldn't be happier with the experience. The location is lovely -- we'd never explored the West End before, and the houses and park nearby are all gorgeous. We drove to other parts of Portland, but nothing is very far away. And the free off-street parking and reasonable rates put this B&B far above the Old Port hotels we've stayed at before that raise rates ridiculously high on weekends and other busy times and charge an arm and a leg for parking.

David, our host, is the consummate innkeeper. Honestly we wonder how he does it all, but he does and makes it look effortless. From the ease of checking in to amazing breakfast buffets each morning (the one negative review here that complains about the breakfast is ridiculous) to the afternoon home-baked snacks... He is a marvel.

Our room (Back Cove) was cozy but so well laid out and appointed that we didn't mind the coziness. The decor is beautiful, and the bathroom in this particular room, with a jetted tub and lots of space, was wonderful. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in away from home. And with the guest livingroom one floor down, we had a spot to sit and read on the one rainy day of our visit.

We will be back for any future visits to Portland!

We spent one night here and while the room was decent and the owner friendly enough, there were details that did not make this a top-notch b&b: serious dust bunnies behind the room fridge, chemically scented plug-in air fresheners in the bathroom, low-quality shampoo and conditioner, and mediocre breakfast. We expected more, especially given the price.

if you are looking for a nice and comfortable place to stay in portland, morrill mansion is the place!(:

the first night we arrived late at ~ 9pm+ and david waited for us and helped us even though it was already past his office hours. we were really appreciative of that because it was our first time in portland and we were honestly quite lost when we reached.

even before we arrived i had dozens of questions regarding portland and david was really kind and helpful to answer all of them very promptly over email!

we got the vaughan room which did not have an allocated parking lot but it was fine with us as we were not driving. the room itself and in fact, the entire house are really pretty (: the whole house was decorated with the vintage feel and we really loved it. the best of all, the room and mainly the toilet smelt really nice with a vanilla scent thanks to a scent burner connected to the plug (: yup it comes with a private toilet - no having to share the toilet with strangers! everything in the room was at top working condition - the bed was comfortable and the shower was great. there is a small fridge working well but cos it was pretty cold when we were there so we didn't use it. there is a conair hairdryer and needless to say it is important to girls like us (:

to add to the sweetness on top of everything, there's a container full of herseys chocolate in the room that were free for us to munch on when we like!(: there're also delicious breakfast and tea time snacks prepared by david himself daily.

the morrill mansion is within walking distance of many restaurants and in fact within walking distance to the old port area where many of the things are happening (: as we didn't drive, we enjoyed taking a walk daily from the mansion over to the old port area for our activities. there are many beautiful houses and scenaries along the way (:

on the ground floor david had prepared a shelves of brochures of the many activities that you can do in portland and upon arrival he handed us a handy map that will bring you around portland, that is, if you are okay with reading maps (:

i really can't say enough of this beautiful place ~ please do visit it and experience it for yourself (: david made our stay really comfortable and he was always ready to offer tips about how to get around, where to go etc (: maine is a really beautiful place and i will go back again, and when i do, there's no doubt where i'll stay again (:

We have stayed at a number of B&B's over the year's and the Morrill Mansion is definitely at the top of our list. We extended our stay another night, it was such a great experience. It is in a great location, within walking distance to many restaurants and the port. I especially enjoyed the different treats each afternoon - cookies, whoopee pies, cupcakes. The buffet breakfasts were outstanding, with lots of choices. David is a perfect host, with great suggestions for restaurants and what to do. His attention to detail made our stay perfect - from the easy access to WiFi to the jar of chocolates in our room. You will not find a nicer place to stay in Portland.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Morrill Suite which included a small sitting room off the bedroom. It was nice to...

This B&B was originally a beautiful small mansion in the West End of Portland. It is still beautiful. I especially appreciate the easy connectivity for WiFi and the mini-fridge in our room. There were plenty of outlets in which to plug my many gadgets. My one complaint was the lack of adequate light by the bed to read. There was a lamp but it had a tiny bulb that hardly put out any light! Breakfast was very good. French toast with a blueberry compote one day and scrambled eggs with ham the next. This along with an assortment of fruits and muffins. David the owner/innkeeper was very attentive.

This is a great place to stay in Portland. The attention to detail and the amenities are great. It is walking distance to excellent restaurants and shops. I would highly recommend this wonderful B&B. David is absolutely the most conscientious and competent innkeeper ever.
