“Amazing fries, Okay sandwiches”
Reviewed March 6, 2009

The french fries were...perfection...no way better to describe it, really. We had ours with the malt vinegar mayo, yum! Our paninis were decent, but we went there to try the fries, and were not disappointed! It is a little small, but we liked that about the place, it gives the shop character that you just can't find at a behemoth restaurant like a lot of chains.

Perfect paninis and the french fries are to die for. Also a homemade shake you can't miss. Tiny little hole in the wall and can be cold in the winter with the door opening!

“Not Impressed”
Reviewed December 27, 2008

Now Imagine there was a restaurant named "Beef Lard". Does that sound appealing? Not so much. So why is that some people enjoy eating stuff particularly fried in duck fat. It is beyond me. The food is decent but the whole deal is that most of the food is fried in duck fat, a major turn off . Granted this restaurant is in the old port where forty somethings wearing fanny packs can stumble in for a nice dose of artery clogging goodness. Quack Quack Yum.

The fries are the best I've ever had. The selection of panini is varied, inventive, and tasty. They even have a decent selection of beer for a small restaurant, while the wait staff is very polite. My only complaint is that it's kinda cramped.

“Great Little Place”
Reviewed October 13, 2008

This was a really great little specialty restaurant near the Old Port area in Portland.
They specialize in "Belgian style" French fries which are cooked in duckfat ( I would guess some duckfat along with other fats). So the fries were fantastic and came wih a chocie of dipping sauces - we had the truffle ketchup which was really different and a great taste.
They also do soup, salad and panini sandwiches. We had a panini which was excellent.
No commerical soda (no Coke or Pepsi) they make their own - from syrup and soda water. Very different flavors. SO had strawberry hyssop, I had ginger brew. Really flavorful and different.
Highly recommend for lunch, maybe even dinner if you are in Portland and are not looking for seafood.
