“The fries!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2013

This was suggested to us, but was also told it would be crowded. Went by at around 11:30 and there were at least 15 people waiting outside. Since it was cold, we left and decided to try back later in the afternoon. We were told not to miss the fries. We went back around 4:30, and there were 4 couples waiting outside. So, we went in and ordered the fries to go. I have to say that while we waiting 10 minutes for our fries, all the couples had been seated. So, the seats turn over quickly. Wish we had waited.

It's VERY small inside with most people sitting on stools at the (small) bar or along the wall, a few tables. The staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere seemed upbeat and fun. Just a little crowded.

We took our fries outside and sat on the picnic tables for those waiting to get in. The fries were so good, we didn't even mind the cold!! The BEST fries we have ever had!! We had truffle ketchup (LOVED it) and the horseradish mayo (not so much - couldn't taste horseradish). But, the fries were actually so good all by themselves!! They aren't cheap. Small order was $5+.

I'm so glad we don't live close by. French fries in duck fat cannot be good for you, and I'd be there all the time!! Best we save it for a special treat. And, what a treat!!!! They were unbelievable!!!

“.. still tastes good!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2013

This place needs to be visited at least once: everything is so perfect inside, the atmosphere, the furnishing, the service, the food. Nothing went wrong.
We stopped here on a chilly Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm for lunch. We had panini, which are soo good and so particular. I recommend the Commonwealth Farm Duck Confit with apples: the combination of flavors is awesome!
The price is reasonable and I tipped very happily :)

Good staff, great fries, outstanding milkshakes. I recommend the caramel sea salt shake.

Staff was helpful and friendly. The restaurant is small so go early.

“Try all the dipping sauces!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2013

We arrived at Duckfat on a Saturday afternoon around 1 PM and were greeted by a crowd. There is a reason why there are benches outside; they are there for people waiting to get a table. The restaurant has crammed a seat in every single square inch including picnic tables under the front awning.

Wow! It was definitely worth the wait. We squeezed into the picnic table with three other people, and I think it was probably more pleasant than being inside. It was a beautiful sunny day, and the fresh air was a treat.

While we waited for a table, a couple recommended that we get the fries and try every dipping sauce. This was the best advice for the day. We liked some, disliked others, and loved a few. Definitely do this so you don't second guess your choices.

“We'll be back!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2013 via mobile

Others have said it......great fries (which we almost never order) and terrific panini. We had the daily special panino with chicken, tomato, feta, mint, and kalamata olive tapenade, delicious! Oh, yes, the coffee was excellent, too. Duckfat is a bistro, lively and friendly, filled with people because they have good food. A good example of the Portland foodie scene.
