Description: Steve and Michelle Corry, the proprietors of Five Fifty-Five, arrived in Portland armed with a passionate vision and extensive experience in the restaurant industry. Steve began his culinary career as a brew master at several breweries in Northern California. In 1999, he attended the New England Culinary Institute in Burlington Vermont. After graduating in 2001, he returned to California to work at Domaine Chandon in Napa Valley. A graduate of Boston University with a Bachelor's Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration, Michelle Corry has worked at numerous prestigious establishments, including the French Laundry in Napa. Together, they have envisioned a dining experience that would combine a comfortable atmosphere, professional service, and fresh, simple, and delicious food sourced locally. Steve and Michelle Corry would like to welcome you to their first collaborative, Five Fifty-Five.

My husband and I had dinner there last night and we have now ranked it as our number one dinner we have ever had. Everything from our wonderful waiter David to the last bite of dessert was so competely amazing.

The chef had a write up in Food & Wine magazing and was ranked as one of the top chefs of 2007. We can see why. The ingredients of our dinner were simple and very local, but the way they were individually highlighted were amazing. The hanger steak and truffle fries was one of the best values we've ever seen for $20! Small tip; sit in the bar area and you can order from the bar specific menu, which offers slightly smaller portions and a few bar-exclusive offerings. But please note that the bar dinner entrees were still plenty large. You are also allowed to order from the main menu in the bar area, so my husband and I ended up ordering from both menus.

Five Fifty Five's is an elegant and mouth watering treat for anyone wanting to celebrate a special occasion--such as an anniversary. The service was top notch and the food was to die for. This restaurant is pricey but well worth it. With a romantic and elegant setting, I highly recommend 555 to anyone looking to engage in a special occassion in a classy setting.

Finally a restaurant where all the write-ups, buzz, and, yes, even hype absolutely lives up to its reputation. It's not hype but consistently FINE meals, in a place with a great vibe (thanks ALL to the husband/wife owners who couldn't be more talented and inviting), which NEVER disappoints. Forget ALL those Portland tourist traps and go to where the locals go; HERE!

I was in this past friday night and did not enjoy myself in the least. Noise level was to the point of uncomfortable and food was overseasoned not overly exciting. We felt rushed through our meals from the kitchen/service so they could turn the table. Hadn't been impresed in the past and this time was no different.
