Touted as one of Portland's Best, I stop in at “Fore Play” to watch one of the MLB playoff games between the Red Sox and Tigers on a weekday afternoon.
Although this bar has a strong Boston connection there were not too many Sox fans here to cheer on their long distance “hometown” team to victory.
Since it was “Happy Hour”, I decided to try the “Happy Hour” wings special ($0.50 per wing) and was disappointed.
I ordered them “naked” in hopes of adding my own hot sauce (Tabasco) to them only to discover “Fore Play” does not carry Tabasco or any other hot sauce. The friendly bartender did offer to put "buffalo sauce" on the side.
It is an unforgivable sin to serve wings and not offer hot sauce besides what they can be cooked in.
In my opinion, every sports bar type restaurant should offer hot sauce of some kind even if it is a generic brand. Will there be no ketchup next?
Besides having no hot sauce most of my ten wings were under cooked with blood still fresh at the bones.
In fairness to the kitchen, another patron did rave about the pastrami sandwich he was having and on that alone I would still visit again but just avoid the wings.
In retrospect, I should have said something to the bartender but did not want to somehow disrupt the festive mood of the Sox defeating the Tigers in a great playoff game.
