At the Crooked Mile you'll get excellent sandwiches, salads, cookies, muffins, and coffee in a relaxed atmosphere. The staff is quite friendly--even when the line grows and grows between 11:30 and 1 PM. I try to come here after 9 and before 11:30 if I want to have a quiet cup of coffee, but I've also enjoyed many lunches here during the peak hours.
Breakfast time is busy too. Most of the people who eat at the Crooked Mile work in the Portland area. The locals know all the lunch options, so I think it says something that they line up at noontime and often call in orders to feed entire offices. If you're visiting Portland, I encourage you to stop here. You'll have a nice lunch for a nice price. When friends of mine stay at the Portland Regency Hotel, I always tell them to go to the Crooked Mile for breakfast. However, the Crooked Mile, to my disappointment, is closed on weekends.
