“We liked it”
Reviewed July 21, 2014

First visit to Portland. We did not have a reservation on Saturday night. We walked in and were told to come back in an hour - so we did. Got 2 seats in the lounge area. Large pours of boubon and wine. Nice vibe. The mussels in broth were best we've had -- awesome, we could not stop sopping the broth with the very good warm bread that was served. The grilled octopus was perfect - a large portion, beautifully presented, tender and heavenly. We shared the scallops entre - also excellent. Wait staff was busy but friendly and professional. The price point is fair.

“Great Food”
Reviewed July 21, 2014

We much preferred our meal here to Fore Street. They have delicious food and we really liked the presentation of our meals being served piping hot in these wonderful skillets. Everything we had was great.
My only suggestion is to dress in cool clothing as it was quite warm in the dining room. I do not think they have good a/c as the bldg seemed quite old. As long as you are dressed accordingly you should enjoy yourself.

“Amazing Food, Disappointing Attitude”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

We were lucky to get 2 seats at the bar last night in this locals favorite near the wharf in Portland, ME. Decor and ambiance all very authentic and comfortable, food beyond expectation to the amazing side. The Sole Francaise was one of the best I have ever had and the presentation picture perfect. That said, from the moment we sat, when the bartender/person who would be serving us, said he was slammed and then literally punished us for his pressure throughout our meal and basically took our entire positive experience and turned it into a negative. We couldn't wait to finish and leave. If he was slammed why didn't he ask for help? If seating at the bar is very much a part of the restaurants format, then why would those being seated at the bar be entitled to any less enjoyable experience at the same cost as those at tables? We were very disappointed about having great food turned into a waste of meal, evening and money by this experience.

“Good seafood, a bit pricey.”
Reviewed July 19, 2014

If you like crowded noisy restaurants, this is the place.good seafood. Never have had anything else there. Great location in quaint Portland. But no water views.and NO NZ Sav Blanc. Only a French one on menu. Shame on them-I love NZ Sav Blanc with seafood. Had to have a vodka instead. Not the same. Chairs are very uncomfortable as well. This place has been around for awhile. There are plenty of other choices in Portland for sure....horrid outdoor seating.

“Quiet, it ain't!”
Reviewed July 19, 2014

But don't let that put you off. It's full of atmosphere, noisy, and at times, quite frenetic. However, it's well managed and you'll be in the hands of capable, attentive staff. The food is excellent.
