This was our fourth or fifth visit to BBG. It remains our favorite restaurant in Portland. The food was exceptional with number of pleasant surprises. The service was excellent - though, it did take a while for our drink orders to be taken (our only criticism of the evening). Other reviewers have articulated better than I can the wonderful dining experience one can and does have at BBG.

Having enjoyed another incredible dinner at BBG, we remain perplexed by the seemingly drink from the koolaid punch devotion to Fore St. We have eaten at Fore St. three times over a number of years and have never been "wowed" by either the food or service. And by "wow" I am referring to the type of experience one would have at BBG or Primo's in Rockland.

The Back Bay Grill is on the back side of Portland (away from the Old Port section) but is definitely worth finding!

The Organic Mixed Greens salad with Candied Walnuts, Stilton, and Port Wine Vinaigrette was a great way to start ... then I had the North Atlantic Salmon with Chive Spaetzle, Fried Green Tomato, "Delicata" Squash, and Butternut Squash Puree, which was amazing. The "Hand Rolled Pappardelle" with Confit Lamb Shoulder, Pancetta Soffrito, Leeks, & Parmesan was also excellent.

The space is warm and inviting (which was especially appreciated on a cold snowy evening) with tall ceilings and interesting artwork on the walls. And, our servers were very professional and attentive.

If you're in Portland for the evening, give it a try!

Definitely the place to take someone special. The staff pays very close attention and the chef is very willing to modifying dishes for those with allergies or diets!

in Portland for the weekend we chose Back Bay based on the reviews on TA and were very happy with our dinner. Saturday night at 8, our table was ready and we were allowed to sit and enjoy a cocktail without being pushed to order. Bangs Island mussels were excellent as was the fois gras app. My duck breast with lentils was perfectly cooked, medium rare and my wife enjoyed the lamb shoulder ragu with papperdelle. The restaurant is small but very cute with an open kitchen area and 6 or 8 seat bar area adjacent. Drinks were excellent and the wine list seemed so well chosen that we ordered by the glass, comfortable that those selections would be good and they were. Service thru out was excellent. Prices were very reasonable. Highly recommend a visit.

My wife and I dined here for the first time this past weekend. We are discriminating diners who eat out a lot so a Highly Recommend from us is notable. The food was excellent and the wine list was appealing especially as there were many interesting selections without the extremely mark ups that one associates with high end restaurants. Adrian, the general manager, is a superb host as he made our evening with his over the top personal attention. Portland appears to have a surprising number of quality restaurants but I would place Back Bay Grill at the top of the list. Heck - is is almost worth the two hour drive up from Boston just to dine there.
