“Still the Best Restaurant in Portland”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2012

This is the most popular best real Portland restaurant in Town . . . a leader in the foodie revolution in Town. That said this is not a Michelin star type of place, and be prepared to shell out a good deal of dough. Make a reservation well in advance. Free parking off Commercial Street next to Hilton Garden Inn. The main dining room has an open kitchen, so there is a noise factor. It's also fun, interesting, and creates an energy and is part of the concept of the place/chef. Maybe not the best choice for a quiet romantic dinner? The back room is a bit more quiet, but also very dark. Bring a pen light to read the menu if needed (or ask for the main room when you make a reservation). Larger parties go to the back room. The menu has something for everyone. Plenty of fish, meat, shellfish, nice salads, but this isn't a place meant for vegeterians. The fois is fantastic. Pork loin is an old standby and it is hard to imagine a better version of the dish. Oysters = super. Everything is super fresh, the preparations let the ingredients shine. Sides are extra $$. Service is quick, friendly, and overall good. The desserts are first class, I recommend the tarte tatin or chocolate cakey stuff. A great Portland restaurant, busy, professionally run, and worth the splurge!

“Mediocre Food with a Side of Pretentiousness”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2012

The food simply isn't worth the obnoxious, pretentious attitude this little restaurant in picturesque, sleepy little Portland, ME dishes out along with the regular menu items.

Potential diners who call in to check for available seating or ask for reservations must routinely navigate a phone tree, are insisted upon to leave a message and callback number but hey if we don't call you back 'your reservation is NOT confirmed and you should come in at 5pm to sign up for our first come, first serve list'. I live in New York and haven't experienced this amount of self importance there.

The one dinner we had there was mediocre at best with slow service, but we decided to give it a second chance. Ambience is low lit but touristy and price simply doesn't equal quality of food or service. Take a pass on this place.

“Great food, good ambiance”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2012

The food was really, really good - top notch seafood. Pricey. Nice ambiance in terms of lighting and decor, but a little loud. Definitely make a reservation in advance, otherwise you can show up at 5pm and get on a list.

“Delicious and Lively Atmosphere”

Great menu, good wines and an interesting venue where you can actually see folks preparing parts of the meal. The food is local from Maine farmers and is only one block from the Old Port District.
