Description: We stumbled upon the place for a late-night drink, but were very impressed with the ambiance, bar scene, and the food menu (we didn't eat here), but this place needs to be recognized and reviewed. I will gladly be the first and give it 5 stars.

Spread was on our list for some time and finally made it there for dinner. It was eerily quiet with few patrons, but overall a nice atmosphere. Our server was great. Very attentive and informative. Unfortunately the food was not on par. Their wine list was not very impressive even though they tout it on their website. Only a few wines by the glass and all very mundane--we went for beer instead. We ordered a spread to start, which was the smoked poblano hummus. It was o.k., no smoke flavor, tasted like a basic hummus. We were taken back by the entrees. There were only five choices and no description. For example, "roasted half chicken." I would like to know how items are prepared or some basic flavorings. While the price was $18, it was al la carte, which means you had to buy sides that would bump the price up to $26-27 if you shared sides, which is a lot for plain chicken. Because of this, we opted for some small plates and sides. The food was good, not outstanding, except for the wild mushroom toast. However, the downside of our entire experience was the strong sewer gas smell in the dining room. Clearly there was leak or a blockage and the smell was disgusting when trying to eat. All in all, I would not recommend spread based on too much money for too few options. I am sure the sewer gas problem was a fluke.

My wife and I were in Portland recently on business, and walked past spread restaurant from the outside it looked wonderful. However once we went inside that allure soon faded away, we ordered around of drinks ( keep in mind place was empty) which took 15-20 minutes the bartender seemed to be more interested in the game on the TV then us. We ordered our food from a lack luster menu when the drinks finally came, and proceed to wait for about 30 minutes for our appetizers. When we noticed a rat underneath a large table in the back part of the restaurant, needless to say we payed for drinks and walked out. We will never be back again

Good food, friendly service and reasonable prices. Wild boar, duck confit and risotto, all perfectly cooked and beautifully presented.

From soup to nuts....host to bartender to server....just a bad scene....somewhat like a frat brother decided to open a bar and serve food.....NOTHING IS GOOD.....although there was a place to sit at the bar. This space in Portland seems to be cursed......nothing survives.....

Went with a group of seven. Some had full meals some had small plates. Overall, the rib-eye steak went back twice. The order was for med-rare, it came out extremely well done...plus it was the thinest rib-eye I have ever been serverd. The second time it was raw...of course the third time was the charm and I sat and ate my meal alone while everyone else had already finished. service was ok...Just too many of these trndie pace trying to make a name for themselves.
