It's been years since I was served the kind of fresh, plump, briny oysters we had here. The last time was in southern France right outside the oyster farm! This is a jewel of a place that honors the perfection that only nature can provide.

The mignonette and thai condiments are finely balanced and delightfully bright without overwhelming the oysters. I can say without exaggeration that it reminded me of the first glorious days of Le Bernardin.

So what else could you ask for? A passionate and engaged staff. Artful presentation. Cocktails crafted with wit and skill. Check, check, and check.

Full disclosure, we only had oysters and cocktails, but wish we could go back and sample other items. And I have no idea what the cost was, except to say it wasn't shocking.

My wife had a craving for oysters and while we usually frequent a few others places to satiate her cravings (no, she's not pregnant) we figured we'd give this new-comer a shot. Oh, the oysters were just fine - good, not necessarily great (and yes they were fresh) - but the real problem was we had a dozen oysters, 3 glasses of wine, and one small salad and one entree (all very small portions) and the bill, with tip, came to $110. Add a super noisy environment and there's no way we're coming back.

We stopped in just before 5:00 for a drink and a bite and wish we could have stayed there all night. Eventide is quite small and only has a couple of actual tables, the other seating being stools around the main bar and an eating bar by the window. We were able to sit at the bar, which is a beautiful thing made out of polished concrete (I think) and has a sculpture of a huge oyster shell in the middle, where their varied selection (14) of local and "from away" oysters are chilling on a bed of ice. The menu is quite unique; there are cold dishes such as the Tuna Nicoise, which is comprised of paper thin slices of raw tuna layered on a bed of finely chopped egg and topped with little curls of pickled onion, which was so tasty, as well as a House Charcuterie plate, consisting of a good variety of salamis, pork belly, chicken liver mousse, a pork terrine, accompanied by some pickled vegetables and crispy crackers- very nice as well. We also sampled 2 sides out of the 8 available- the Cuke Kim Chee and the Carrots w/ Goat Cheese, both amazing. There were 6 selections in the "cooked" section that we would love to try, such as chowder, lobster roll, fried oyster bun... all sounded great, as well as a New England Clam bake and other dinner selections like Roasted Seaweed-wrapped Black Bass, Roasted Pork Belly, and Grilled Nova Scotia Swordfish Belly. But let's not forget why we really went there, the raw oysters; they were heavenly, especially the Winter Points, with some very creative topping choices such as frozen gazpacho and verjus sorbet! For drinks, Eventide has a nice selection of wines by the glass or bottle and several good craft beers on tap, as well as some interesting sounding cocktails. They do offer 4 dessert choices but who could even begin to consider dessert when all those oysters are just begging to be slurped? Prices were very reasonable and serving sizes generous. Can't wait to go back!
