Owner description: If you want to get up close and personal with Portland’s landmarks, lighthouses and harbor seals AND learn some city history, join Portland Discovery on a Land & Sea Tour! Start your day on board the Discovery trolley as you travel from city streets to rocky coast and make your way to Portland Head Light, Maine’s oldest and most photographed lighthouse! After a break for lunch and shopping in the Old Port, board a classic cruise boat for a 90-minute narrated harbor tour, where you’ll see 4 lighthouses up close, 3 Civil War forts and several of the inner bay islands, including Halfway Rock Ledge, home to many seals and seabirds.

We took the Lighthouse Lovers Boat Tour and had a great time. We took it to see our favorite lighthouse from the water and were pleasantly surprised about how nice it was. They take you around the harbor and do an excellent job of narrating. We really felt informed about everything we saw, including the history. The cost was low and I felt so good about the tour that I felt compelled to donate to the tip box. Even if you are only visiting for one day, you should take this tour. We will fondly remember this tour for a long time.

Visiting Portland for the Labor Day Weekend, and we jumped on the 44 minute "Peek at Portland" trolley tour. It gives you a real quick history of the city, a view of city you cannot see walking or if you are the driver. The guide, John Jenkins, did a great job of sharing his extensive knowledge of the area.

I've been on many of the light house cruises at various times of day, and every time fully enjoy this 90 minute cruise around Portland Harbor and vicinity--it's one of my favorite tours to share with both visitors and local friends. The guides are often different but all are steeped in the history of the area's war forts, sea birds, seals, and island history. You'll see several lighthouses on the cruise, including Portland Head Light, the most photographed lighthouse in the nation--and for good reason! There are restrooms onboard (the "head"), and a small bar for sodas, alcoholic beverages and snacks. Be sure to buy tickets and be ready to board early as the cruises are quite popular and sometimes filled. Also, check the weather before going out--fog or rain may cancel the tour.

The boat tour of the bay and lighthouses was the best ever. Saw many area lighthouses from the water side and learned a lot about Portland's water ways. Portland Head light, Bug light, and 2 or 3 others. And after the boat tour, the trolley tour was also very informative and fun. We've visited Portland many times and never took this tour. We highly recommend it to anyone who visits Portland regularly. You have a great time and learn a lot. Great for people who love to take pictures too! Just an all around wonderful 4 hours or so.

Since this was our first time in the area we were looking for a "crash course" soon after landing. This tour was just the ticket, informative and covered a wide area from Old Port all the way out to the Portland Headlight. This tour around town gave us an idea of where we were and where we wanted to go. All in all, a great starting point to a Portland visit.
