We used to feel a trip to Portland wasn't complete without a dinner at Fore Street. Then we tired of having to make reservations so far in advance and we began eating in the bar. We relished their fabulous mussels and many bar offerings without the hassle of reservations. However, the word must be out, because on our last trip the bar was packed and now there's a lengthy waiting list for the bar. Portland is jam packed with fabulous restaurants, and although Fore Street has terrific food and service, it's not at the top of our list any longer.

Many shops... for tourists. Little character.
Nice houses. Happy feeling. Nothing very special.
Since there is not so much to do in Portland...

Delicious food and great atmosphere here. It was such a nice place for a glass of cabernet, some yummy fresh bread, a salad, and scallops that tasted like they had just been pulled from the sea. The red exposed brick feels warm and inviting on a chilly evening. I want to return on future trips.
