“Amazing stay!”
Reviewed December 9, 2012

My boyfriend and I spent a lovely winter weekend at the Inn. From the moment we walked in the door, Buddy and his staff made us feel like we were staying with friends! The room was immaculate and spacious. Our bathroom was spotless and huge! The electric fireplace in the room was an added bonus. We had a delicious breakfast each morning and were served by the friendliest staff! Cindy offered us great tips on places to visit and was so friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed every moment of our stay and plan to return on our next trip to Portland!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 4- it was spacious and felt private as it was on the top floor at the end of the h...

If you're looking for warm, friendly people, beautiful, comfortable surroundings and a delicious breakfast to wake up to, look no further. A for effort... Buddy, Cindy and Heather have the best personalities to accommodate guests. We should all learn from them & the world would be a much nicer place. Don't hesitate to make your reservation... Then go & enjoy.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 6. It's on the 3rd floor, so you'll have to climb stairs. It's like a...

I rented out the Inn for my wife's 50th Birthday party. Buddy and Cindy made the evening! They put the capital "H" in hospitality. The Inn is in beautiful condition with original fixtures and architectural highlights with large room with plenty of natural light. However, I chose the Inn for my wife's party after meeting with Buddy Marcum and his assistant Cindy. They are the reason I chose the Inn on Carlton.

My wife and I spent 2 nights at the Inn On Carleton and loved it. It's a good location in Portland with very nice rooms and a great breakfast. The owner was very friendly and was very helpful on restaurants and things to do in Portland.

This B&B mixes charm and elegance with grace and ease. Victorian detailing in all the rooms plus interesting and well-cared for furnishings such as stately grandfather clock in the sitting room/living room. Throughout this Inn is welcoming and well-appointed, designed with care for for both attractiveness and guest comfort. Breakfast is excellent; snacks/drinks are available day and evening. Guest rooms are spacious. Each has a delightful electric "fireplace" - the heat level is easily adjusted. Each room (well, ones I saw on 2nd floor) has spacious closet and bathroom; plenty (abundance!) of drawer space. The surrounding residential neighborhood is perfect for walks. Several good restaurants are nearby; many major Portland sites are within 20 min. walk. The innkeeper/owner who lives in the building, clearly loves what he's doing - and does it well. I met one staff member - she hosts when he is not around. Again, a warm and helpful person. I didn't have a car so have no knowledge in that area. This is definitely a fine place to stay when visiting Portland. And Portland itself is a gem of a city - excellent museums (library and old homes included in that category), seafood (!), Old Port shops and harbor, tours, etc. plus short hop to Brunswick and Bath. Charming, small "big" city!

Room Tip: My cheerful and comfortable room on 2nd floor had windows on 2 sides - airy and bright.

I stayed here with a friend for a weekend in November (room 6) and absolutely loved it. The service was fantastic, but not too obtrusive. We loved relaxing in the living room with a cup of tea and some of the amazing homemade cookies provided. Buddy and Cindy are simply lovely, and the breakfasts hit the spot each morning. We will definitely be back.

We stayed for 4 nights over Thanksgiving and it was as great as our stay 8 months before. This Inn is lovely, with beautiful rooms and a nice , convenient location.

However what makes this place so special is the manager/owner Buddy, and the assistant manager Cindy. They are the most welcoming, friendly and helpful people you would ever want to meet. No request is over looked. They cooking amazing gourmet breakfasts each morning and help with plans for the day. They are amazing.

Do yourself a favor. Try this Inn. You'll love it.
