We got a slightly lower last-minute rate at the hotel, which was good because the full price seems awfully expensive for the product. Nice staff, clean room, good location but I don't know about the reviews touting luxury and glamour...seems like a stretch to me, as I didn't experience the kind of design/services/experience that would usually qualify a hotel as luxurious (chocolate lobsters aren't on my checklist). Room layout was odd, with a TV undersized for the distance it was from the bed/chairs. We didn't encounter any issues with noise. A fine place to stay, but if I had read TA reviews ahead of time, my expectations would have been way too high.

Conveniently located - pleasant room - bathroom door was squeecky - seems like a problem in every hotel - staff pleasant - had a problem with the bill - we made our reservations online and received 4 schooner tickets for 2 adults - brought this to the attention of the person checking us in - she said "don't worry you were not charged for the second pair" we only wanted and only used 1 pair of tickets - upon check-out we noticed we WERE charged for the second set of tickets - brought this to the attention of the check-out clerk - she gave us a $10 credit for a $70 charge and could not seem to understand why we were upset - disappointed - put a sour ending on our trip.

From the location (walking distance to the downtown shopping district, the waterfront and Congress Street) to the concierge's skill at recommending the right restaurant, to the chocolate lobsters on your pillow at turndown, this hotel consistently maintains the feel of a quality hotel. Every day we were there my wife thanked me for booking us. It's definitely a splurge, though.

This was a comfortable hotel in a great location in the Old Port section. My kids especially appreciated the turndown service, complete with lobster-shaped chocolates! As our guidebook warned, there was a good deal of noise/music from the restaurants at night, but even though our kids are 11 and 8, we tend to be up late on vacation, so it really wasn't a problem for us. The room was very tight, though it was pretty with particularly lovely bedding.Or only real complaint was that the concierge service wasn't great, despite the hotel's posted notice about how the fellow was specially certified. He didn't start until 11am, left for lunch by 12, and was off by 7pm. But our guidebooks and a good website on Portland restaurants meant we didn't really have to rely on him. PHH is also on the expensive side, so even though our stay was fine, we'd probably try a less expensive place next time, if we could get close enough to the Old Port area.

We have stayed at the PHH several times. The location is great, rooms are comfortable, public spaces attractive, parking is convenient and attendants are excellent. A few things need improvement and renewal - elevator interiors are worn and bedroom seating upholstery is stained - both need work, perhaps total renovation. Restaurant food is good but service is much too slow at times. Concierge could be available earlier - by 9AM or so.

We'll stay again, but look forward to seeing some renewal.

My local Portland friends suggested we stay there since we were there visiting them with 4 other couples. I am so glad we did. Not only was the service probably the best we had ever received in a fine hotel, but the food and atmosphere made our trip. I thank everyone there for being so sweet and helpful.
Sincerely,
Leslie Koon

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for a long relaxing weekend. We stayed in the new honeymoon suite which was truly beautiful. The colors and layout of the suite create a calming effect as soon as you enter the space. I loved relaxing in the oversized jacuzzi tub with a full view of the fireplace (and television)! The suite is well equipped with a very comfortable bed, large flat screen tv, oversized jacuzzi, gas fireplace, two-headed shower, refrigerator with side-sink, wine glasses, etc.
