We stayed at the Portland Harbor for a night on our way across the country. We found the hotel staff to be very helpful. They upgraded our room to garden facing, which is supposed to be better since it was a Friday night. The room was large and had a nice view of the garden. The bathroom had a lot of room and we were pleasently surprized that we could have music on in the bedroom and also listen to it in the bathroom. We had a fantastic breakfast in Eve's the next morning. The valet was very helpful with our bags in the morning. Overall, it was a great stay. Wish we could have stayed longer!

My company held our annual sales meeting at the Portland Harbor Hotel in July. The hotel is very nice, new and the rooms and appointments are well designed. What really stood out was the quality and helpfulness of the staff. All of them were well trained and extremely accommodating. Every time we needed something the staff responded immediately. Our team also enjoyed the food very much. The food they provided for the meeting at breakfast and for lunch is the best food I have ever had at a sales meeting (and I travel 150 nights a year and have attended a lot of meetings in hotels around the world). Their restaurant, Eve's, has excellent food and the layout provides a great environment that promotes conversation. Eve's has excellent sound deadening so you can have a private conversation at a reasonable volume and hear everyone at your table. Lastly the hotel is centrally located so you can walk any place in downtown Portland. It makes it very easy to experience what the town has to offer. Very comfortable hotel, highly recommend it.

Perfect location in the Old Port. Good food and drink at the restaurant. Parking garage and some of the rooms have great deluxe bathrooms.

It's really no surprise that one of America's best cities would house a variety of fine lodging experiences. The West End of Portland is host to several fine bed & breakfasts, and the "Old Port" and Financial District boasts some of the cities most exciting accommodations. I think that one of my favorites to date is the Portland Harbor Hotel. The marketing tagline "Where Luxury Comes to Life" is absolutely no understatement.

I don't even know where to start. The fact that this hotel is rated 4 stars in any review site should be ashamed. I want to say as well, I never complain or write bad reviews when something goes wrong at an establishment but this was our wedding night and the management handled it so poorly. My husband booked a suite at the Portland Harbor Hotel for the night of our wedding before we left the next day for our honeymoon. He figured because it was considered one of the best in Portland that it would be a sure bet for the night of our wedding. They not only lost our reservation and put us in a regular room the night of our wedding but we had to carry our bags up ourselves from the parking garage in our tux and wedding dress. Since the room was not what we had originally booked, everything including the champagne, flowers, etc that my husband set up with the hotel and confirmed the day of the wedding were no where to be found. Breakfast the next morning was awful accompanied by horrible service. Did I mention we didn't even get a refund between the difference of the regular room and the suite? Oh and we didn't get an apology either. Apparently the manager said it was our fault that the limo dropped us off at the wrong entrance (which was clearly marked "valet" might I ad) and that we checked in at 5 pm and then "re-checked in" at 10 PM....weird since we got married at 6 PM and never arrived at the hotel until after the reception at 10 PM. This is just a glimpse at what went wrong that ONE night we were there so I won't bore people with the rest. I work in the hospitality industry and could not let this slide after what a ridiculous experience this was, what an absolute waste of money.

I should have paid attention to the number of less-than-favorable reviews here on Tripadvisor. From beginning to end, this was not a good stay. We're not very needy travelers, but bell staff seemed totally uninterested and unhelpful. Front desk staff not friendly, just going through the steps. Room smelled of smoke. We went back to front desk to request another room. Second room was not any better, but because front desk was less-than-pleased the first time we returned, we decided to just tough it out. Room and hallways did have a sicky sweet type smell, the type where air fresheners are attempting to cover up unpleasant odors. Room was small. Breakfast service was pitiful. Guests were serving themselves coffee, by going to coffee pot. One gentleman actually starting serving others. Never again. I like Portland, but will certainly look for another hotel.

The rooms are beautiful and the location is the best but it is not worth it. We had a large number family put up here for our wedding and we stayed our wedding night in one of the suites. On the wedding night everyone was locked out of their room for about an hour (or more) because they could not get the key cards to work. You need a keycard to even reach the floor the suite was on so the Groom got locked out off the floor when he went down to get Champaign ( the staff could not bring it up). When the groom tried to take the stairs back up to the room, he got locked in the stairwell, as the doors to every floor were locked. He ended up going out an emergency exit onto the street and walking (in his Pajamas) back to the hotel entrance.

The worst part is the hotel refused to comp even one of the rooms ( we had 6 plus rooms rented out) even though many guests were stuck out of their rooms because of the hotels mistake. These concerns were brought up to the hotel and they promised to call us back but never did.

Do not stay in the Portland Harbor Hotel. I would recommend the Regency or Hilton Garden Inn downtown instead. Both these hotels are nice and both are about as close to downtown.
