We decided upon JP's at the last minute and were surprised that they were able to give us a table for 4... albeit at 4:30pm on a Saturday... but we took it without argument. They had a ample choice of specialized cocktails to choose from and they were all great. We ordered everything from Shrimp Scampi, Chicken Francaise, Veal Saltimboca, and Veal Marsala... all were very very good and the entire meal was satisfied to all. Only problem was that there was simply no room for the fantastic dessert selection they offered us. Definitely worth a repeat visit.

It would never occur to me to put pistachios with mussels, but this chef did and the result was incredible. The scallops were perfectly seared. I would consider spending every meal here but we only have two days and we want to try different places. I love the atmosphere, it's cramped and noisey but in an inviting way. Servers were all friendly and fast.

We love JP's Bistro. We visit family in Portland and each time we come to the restaurant. The place is very small and noisy, but the food and service are fantastic. Every dish we have had is amazing. The crab stuffed mushrooms are the best as well as the French Onion Soup. Every night there are many specials along with the regular menu and the choice is terrific. I loved the Eggplant Napolean which is a take on Eggplant parmesean but with roasted vegetables along with the layers of sauce, cheese and eggplant. It comes on linguine. The seafood pasta is also wonderful with lots of fish and seafood. There has not been a dish we did not like. The service was so good and the servers answer questions and are attentive and helpful. A wonderful evening for all.

We joined 2 friends (who had been here before) for what we hoped would be an excellent, fun, and memorable evening of great food, drinks, service, and fellowship. WOW!!! This is The Place. Numerous evening specials, fine wines, excellent staff. We had 4 different dishes and loved them all.
Get the Mussels as an appetizer!
Next time we are in Maine we'll be back.
Make Reservations.

I am inlove with JPs - and realize that by writing a review I risk contributing to its growing popularity. But- these guys deserve every bit of credit for consistently serving excellent plates of delicious and unique food- along with unique cocktails.
They cook scallops perfectly, salmon to a pink perfection, chicken dishes always tender and unique- and they have never overlooked a steak I've ordered. They are the friendliest and most accommodating staff. Great atmosphere anytime of year !
