My stay here was really great. The staff were efficient and attentive. Complementary breakfast was average quality but had lots of choices. Rooms were very clean and updated. Location is very convenient.

NOTE: I was very surprised by the $15.00 VALET PARKING FEE! There seemed to be no way to avoid it as street parking was metered. Nowhere in the confirmation was this fee disclosed. They have a HUGE parking lot and when I arrived I passed by the valet sign and parked the car myself. The valet met me at the car and said it was valet ONLY! Told me to back the car up and into the portico. No mention of the fee. No other option to self park.

I understand this in very large cities like Philadelphia, Boston and NY, but Portland, Maine?

This charge needs to be very clearly stated on their website prior to purchase and in their confirmation.

Not until I checked into it the following morning

Thank you for the review of your recent stay with us. We are glad you did have a good stay.

I appreciate the comments you made on parking as well. We lease the lot we use so that guests of the hotel have a convenient place to park. There is street parking and other lots within walking distance to the hotel but obviously the lot next to the hotel is convenient. I will certainly review reservation sources to make sure the hotel information being provided is correct and complete.

Thank you again for your comments. Please come see us again.

Great location near waterfront day/night life; clean, quiet, and comfortable accommodations; professional and personable staff. Lounge is Sebago Brewing pub; great beer. Only complaint is being hostage to valet parking fee unless you want to chance parking on nearby streets. I would definitely stay here again.

We drove up right after the early Feb blizzard. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The location was ideal. After parking the car (valet for an extra charge), we were able to walk everywhere -- to the waterfront and to the restaurants. Perfect, and just what we were looking for. We had a comfortable room on the 5th floor with a view of the harbor, allowing us to watch the ships come into the harbor in the early morning. The room had fantastic double darkening shades. The only negative in the room was a fan which operated all night long, but after I inserted ear plugs into my ears, I was able to sleep soundly. Also the shower water control was weird. You had to turn it around twice in order to start to control the hot and cold water flow. It did not follow the markings on the faucet. Breakfast was your usual chain hotel hot breakfast buffet. . .

This hotel was a good location: walking distance to the waterfront. A very good pub at 5 mins walk: Ri Ra, an Irish pub that also serves food. Don't miss the quiz every Tuesday night - we won 3 T-shirts! Also, the excellent Sebago restaurant (quiz every Monday night) can be reached via an inside hotel door so you don't have to go out into the cold. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful - they thought nothing of printing off driving instructions for us even though we had a GPS in our hire car. Although we didn't like the daily valet parking charge (the parking site is privately-owned), the valets were really friendly and helpful - wiping off the snow from the windscreen etc. Our room was clean and quiet, fluffy towels changed daily. A good breakfast was included. Tip: if you're vegetarian, just ask the staff and they'll provide meat-free hot food.

We were very happy with our stay at the Hampton Inn Portland Downtown. The room was extremely clean and comfortable. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful especially considering we were there during the recent blizzard of Feb. 8,9, 2013. They didn't skip a beat and took a personal interest in the wedding we were there to attend. I would highly recommend them and looking forward to checking out Hampton Inns in the future.

This hotel is located right in downtown Portland near the waterfront and plenty of entertainment and dining. Compared to some of the more expensive "upscale" hotels around here, this place is the best value, hands down.

The hotel is only about a year old and it is very modern, up to date, and CLEAN. All of the staff, including the valet guys, are courteous and very helpful. The daily breakfast is excellent and has plenty of options. The swimming pool and fitness center are great!

My only criticisms are: the rooms are thin and you can hear a lot in the hallway from the room. Also, I wish the bathroom had a fan for some ventilation. The bathroom doesn't get the same ventilation as the rest of the room so it felt a little cooler that the room.

Overall, I 100% recommend this hotel. If I'm staying in Portland again, this is the only place I want to stay. Loved it!

We really like this hotel, especially the coffee and tea bar, which is alway available any time. The staff is good, including the valet parkers, the front desk staff, and the breakfast people. The hotel is very clean and well equipped. We mentioned on checking out that the TV hadn't worked, and Peter, the manager, offered us either a reduction on this stay or on on a future stay, which we took because we will most probably be back. The location is great too. We were upgraded to a harbor view, which was wonderful. Very easy to find from the expressway.

Room Tip: Like any hotel, away from the elevator or ice machine and on on a high floor.
