Owner description: Victoria Mansion, also known as the Morse-Libby House, is the finest example of residential design from the pre-Civil War era in America. With superb architecture and well-preserved original interiors that were among the most lavish and sophisticated in their day, it is an unparalleled document of America’s highest aspirations in architecture, interior design, and the decorative arts. Our history, a quick tour, and our present-day efforts at restoring the Mansion convey an impression of the significance of this unique site, which is of national and even international importance.

“Really interesting!”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

I enjoyed our tour of Victoria Mansion. The tour guide, Bob, was very knowledgeable and answered all sorts of questions that others in the group had. My only complaint is that they allow people to walk through the house without a tour guide and it was a little distracting to have people popping up here and there in the middle of Bob's talks.

“Love the painting”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

The Victoria Mansion has the most interesting paintings on wall and ceilings to fool the eye about the make up of the house. It is interesting to see the furniture as well since much of it is original to the house. Like many older buildings, it still needs some work to get it back to glory but it is still interesting if you love to see the older building, especially one out of the ordinary. A little crowded at times but worth a visit.

“Loved it!”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

My family and I enjoyed walking through each room and taking in the beautiful character. The guide knew every detail about the architecture, and could even answer the random pesky questions that others shot her away. Def a great thing to check out!

“Best tour. Very informative”

This old brown stone is a show place for Portland. We have been to Mansion row but this tour really get you into the mood of actually being back in 1865. WELL done and guides were great!

“Expensive restoration but still needs work”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

This mansion was meant to impress and it certainly does that well. The tour is guided by a docent who in well versed in the history of the mansion and its occupants. Rooms and entry way are jaw-dropping. I was surprised to learn that the massive sky light was boarded over with plywood from the 1930s to the 1990s. Only in the past ten years has it been restored and storm damage. But more needs to be done. It is getting a bit shop worn in places. Gift shop is excellent and well organized.
