Owner description: Victoria Mansion, also known as the Morse-Libby House, is the finest example of residential design from the pre-Civil War era in America. With superb architecture and well-preserved original interiors that were among the most lavish and sophisticated in their day, it is an unparalleled document of America’s highest aspirations in architecture, interior design, and the decorative arts. Our history, a quick tour, and our present-day efforts at restoring the Mansion convey an impression of the significance of this unique site, which is of national and even international importance.

“Amazing work”
Reviewed May 29, 2012

The mansion is one of the best remaining examples of Gustav Herter's tromp loeil (fool the eye) work. It is beautiful and a lovely place to see a unique style of architecture. It was built by Ruggles Morse who was a hotelier in New Orleans, so it has some conveniences that are unique to the hotel business. The docents have a very good background on the house and all of the times I have toured the mansion, I have not been disappointed. It is truly a gem in Portland.

Fabulous house and good tour. To think that they almost tore this down is very scary.

“Very interestesting, but a little expensive”
Reviewed May 23, 2012

We learned a lot on the tour, but at $15 a person for 45 minutes, it is a little expensive.

“Beautiful mansion with lots of original details!”
Reviewed May 11, 2012

If you're a history buff you will love this place! They've done a great job at restoration while maintaining the integrity of the history of the home! Lots of furniture is also original to the home and the staff is incredibly knowledgeable, both on the families that have lived there and the story of the mansion itself. Great way to spend an afternoon!

“An Eye-Popping Time Capsule in All Seasons”
Reviewed May 1, 2012

The Victoria Mansion is one of Portland's treasures. During the regular season (May to October) you will see this opulent, period-furnished architectural gem by guided tour. At Christmastime, the rooms of the mansion are decorated according to annual themes by local designers. At that time, visitors are permitted to walk through at their own pace. Don't miss this!
