Not great, not bad, just average. Paciarino is a great idea, flawed by poor technique and over-reliance on packaged ingredients. I brought family there and we all agreed our pasta was good, but over-cooked and over-salted. Antipasti mostly consisted of premade (albeit premium) spreads.

This would be a pretty good place if execution were better and a little more was made in house. I'll be honest, this place would probably be a very good restaurant in any other place, but Portland has far too much competition for it to stand out. It's a good value, both for food and wine.

Just took two very dear friends of mine (more like family) - one from Rome, Italy and the other from Madrid, Spain - here. Why? BECAUSE I KNEW THEY WOULD HAVE AN OUTSTANDING FANTASTIC MEAL!!!! And they did. VERY authentic and we couldn't have asked for better service. AS USUAL. Paciarino remains one of top picks and we've never ever had any complaints about any aspect. Oh, one more thing: the lasagna bolognese is to die for! AS USUAL! (So too the Buffala Mozzerella)....should I go on?

We are an Italian couple, living in Portland for a few months and were looking forward to eating authentic Pasta as the Restaurant advertises. How disappointing this experience was. We were seated at the bar for dinner directly viewing the receptionists' legs and wondering were she had forgotten her trousers/skirt - she was just wearing a shirt. However the worst was to come: the Pasta was too salty, too oily and not authentic at all. It was just not good and we'll definitely never to this place again.

In this pasta only Italian restaurant, the atmosphere is a drawback. Hard wooden chairs in hard wood floors make for a loud room. Also, watching people picking up take out is annoying. Open kitchen so you can watch the chef with the long beard make your dinner. Menus on loose pieces of paper, clipped together was a first for me.

Our raviolis were very fresh and tasty, if a bit el dente for me. Salame (sic) appetizer was as overpriced as the flavors were strong.

Shan't be going back.

we decided to visit paciarino for dinner last night, since it is owned by a friend of a friend. we ordered a couple of glasses of wine, an order of caprese salad, cheese ravioli for myself, the pesce nightly special ravioli for my wife, and tiramisu for dessert. the wine was delicious and ridiculously under-priced (yay!); the caprese was fresh and light. my ravioli was to die for. the pasta was perfect, the sauce tasted fresh, and the cheese inside was just right. when my wife took her first bite of her haddock and scallop stuffed ravioli, i could hear the crunch of scallop bits from across the table. not appetizing. could have been poorly purged scallops, could have been shell- we'll never know. she's not a complainer so she ate it all, but said that she wouldn't order it again. our server was very sweet and attentive, but not over the top (just how we like them to be) and i'm sure that she would have gladly replaced the dish, but since we don't like to waste food we didn't complain. the tiramisu wasn't americanized and was tasty- coffee soaked lady fingers and real marscapone cheese. it was less sweet than other versions i have tried, which was just fine with me after such a rich dinner.

the only glitch was the hostess: since it was a monday night, the place was about halfway to capacity. the hostess made no eye contact and asked for the name on our reservation (we hadn't made one-oops). she told us that we were so lucky because she just had a cancellation. well, we were there for a couple of hours enjoying our meal, and the longer we were there, the fewer people in the dining room. it just seemed like she was being sort of rude for not making a reservation. she was also wearing leggings meant to be worn under a dress or long sweater- they gave just a teensy bit too much information as she led us to our table.

all in all dinner and the service were both great, paciarino is definitely the most authentic italian food we've ever tried in portland. we absolutely loved the laid-back-take-your-time atmosphere.
