“Nice hotel, great location!”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

Very nice hotel. Perfect location to walk to all the local sights. Very good complimentary breakfast. The hotel staff was helpful and the parking garage was just steps away from the hotel. The lady at the concierge desk was so very helpful and nice. Our room was on the 3rd floor facing the water. We had a suite that was great for our family of 5.

Room Tip: Ask for a water view. Very nice to watch the boats on the harbor.

Next to Shipyard Brewery Distribution center but noise was ok. Walking distance to downtown and the hotel shuttle will take you wherever you want to go. Service was just ok. Housekeeping kept knocking too early in AM despite request to be later. Television is the worst with no pay-per-view. Normally would not be an issue for a night or two but booked in for 7 days and was stuck in room with flu for 2 days. Parking is convenient and cheap for downtown - $12 a night right next door. As Gold Elite asked for upgrade to better view (I was overlooking trucks from Brewery distribution) but was told I was staying to long to get a better view - go figure! Mattresses have not been changed out as bed was really uncomfortable and I usually love Marriott bedding! Internet was slow and did not allow streaming of any movies...

Having a two-day business meeting in Portland, Maine, I asked several locals for a Hotel recommendation. They unanimously recommended this property, so I went online and booked it. I'm glad I did. From the moment I checked in until the moment I checked out two days later, I was very pleased with the comfort, cleanliness, and fit-up of the hotel, and equally pleased with the warmth and helpfulness of the staff.

I was surprised to find that they served dinners in the evening, and even more surprised (and pleased) that they had an in-hotel bar. Many Residence Inns do not. But this one does, and when I asked the bartender (after a very long day of meetings), he replied: "I'm open as long as you want me to be." Now that's refreshing to hear when you arrive back at your hotel after all-day meetings at 10 pm.

The hotel also has a pool, hot tub, and clean health club facilities. I rate it "Great" for business travel of any duration. The rooms are super clean, and fully equipped for longer stays. Thank you, Residence Inn - Downtown Portland, for making my stay so pleasant.

My wife and I stayed at the Residence Inn on June 27 and 28, 2013 while visiting Portland. Our check in went very smoothly. We had a room on the third floor facing the waterfront, which is one block from the hotel. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The hotel does not have its own parking lot, but there is a public parking garage next door that charges $12 a day for hotel guests. A parking pass is obtained at checkin. The hotel is within easy walking distance of downtown Portland and its many restaurants. A breakfast is included, and there is a diverse selection to chose from. There is a bar in the lobby area, which has ample comfortable seating, as well as a happy hour. Moreover, the lobby contains a business area that contains computers for quest use. In summary, my wife and I vow to stay at this hotel again when we return to Portland.

One of the main reasons we chose this place was parking and because we travelled with our dog. Great perk of being dog friendly! The people at the front desk were super helpful and and friendly. The room was large and clean. The location is good because it's just a block or two away from the main road. It was close walking distance to everywhere! We had a great stay here and would stay here again!

We stayed at the Residence Inn based on other Trip Advisor reviews and we were not disappointed. We highly recommend this hotel! Our studio room was large with a comfortable bed and a sitting area with views of the water. While not right on the water, there was a clear view of the waterfront. Within walking distance to lots of shopping and great food in downtown Portland. The breakfast was included and had a nice variety. The staff was very professional and helpful!

Room Tip: Request a water view

Great stay. William at the front desk rocks. He is more like a good concierge, to be honest. Makes things happen. Very clean room. We went for the top corner room with the sweeping windows of the water. Well worth the extra. Bartender was super cool as well. Nice area to hang out in and have a drink. The shuttle service is awesome. Ride the train in or fly in and William will have you picked up for free. They will also take you anywhere you want to go. Old port is just one block away. Walk one extra block, but stay at a nicer and cleaner place for less. Safe to walk at night, and with kids. Again, William rocks!

Room Tip: Go for the corner room with the big windows, if you are staying on vacation, and if you like watchin...
