La Quinta Inn & Suites Portland
Ranked #14 of 20 Hotels in Portland
Reviewed March 12, 2011

The La Quinta Inn and Suites is clean and well maintained hotel at a very reasonable price. The hotel shuttle picked us up promptly from the airport. The rooms were modern and nicely maintained. The smell of cleaner was bit strong throughout the building, but I think that is better than some odors I have experienced in other hotels. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel to other travelers.

Actually put in this hotel by another hotel since they gave away our reservation to someone else. When all was said and done, we said we should have just stayed her from the beginning. The staff was superb and very helpful especially with us essentially not having a place to stay, great breakfast in the morning and extremely comfortable beds. Would say the 3rd floor did smell like smoke eventhough we were in a non-smoking room thinking they may still allow it on the fourth floor so if you don't like the smell of smoke would recommend asking for the lower floors.

We got our rooms for $80/night and we stayed for 4 nights. With 4 in a room, it ended up being about $80 each. We expected a somewhat small room with the basics, but it ended up being a big room with a mini fridge!!
We also expected to have the basics during breakfast, but that also ended up being more than we expected. Hard-boiled eggs, cereal, bagels w/cream cheese, sliced bread w/butter, tea, coffee, orange juice, apple juice, apples, and bananas. The dining area is not humongous, but our group of 12 rarely had trouble finding seating.
The staff was great. Our group wanted to have a small study meeting and I asked if we could kindly use the dining area's tables (during the evening) and the staff was very helpful in helping us set up.
If I were ever to return to Portland, I'd gladly give La Quinta first priority in my selection!
Great prices, great amenities, awesome staff.

I have yet to be disappointed with La Quinta. This was a very nice clean hotel. It was only 5 minutes from the Old Port. The beds are comfy and the flat screen TV was a plus. Would stay here again.

A real nice place to stay. They have a shuttle that will pick you up at the airport, bus stop or train station. As far as local eating places, there is a Denny's, McDonalds, Amatos, close by. A grocery store about 3 blocks away. I have no complaints about this hotel at all.

After searching a bit on the web, we also found the hotels in Portland Maine to be very overpriced. However, after changing our dates a bit and choosing to end our trip to Maine on a Sunday night before an early morning flight out on Monday, we got a great deal on this hotel. The room was really nice, stylishly contemporary, and clean. Our king bed was very comfortable. We found the front desk staff and the the housekeeper to be very helpful, offering free shuttles and dinner suggestions. Coffee and a nice breakfast in the lobby is also an added bonus.

The hotel is in a good central location, especially if you are flying out of Portland. It is only a couple of miles from the airport and fifteen minutes to the Old Port area of town. Thankfully it is also out of the airport flight path, and very close but not next to I-295. This is mixed use part of town that doesn’t offer great water views or lots of restaurants or attractions within walking distance, but we were simply not willing to pay the prices for a mediocre hotel in the midst of the street life of Old Port.

We had a fourth floor smoking room. Choose another floor if you are averse to the smell of cigarette smoke in the hallway. We were very thankful not to be relegated to some smoking outpost on the edge of the property as is so often the case these days.

My husband and I were taking a surf trip up the coast and we decided to take a few nights in a hotel. We wanted to experience the city of Portland and prices in the area were outrageous. This La Quinta was priced at 130 and we expected a VERY lovely room for that. The room was adequate with a clean and comfortable bed. But the floor was old and the shower had someone els's hair on the floor. That wasn't great. But coming from being in a tent for a week it was still nice to have a shower. The best part was their customer service. We had big paddle boards that we didn't want to leave on our car and two of their front desk people helped us tremendously finding us a place to leave them while we slept. Thank you for your hospitality. I forget their names but it was a man and a woman at the desk who were incredibly helpful. Thanks again.
