“Great hotel, pretty close to everything.”
Reviewed January 22, 2012

Stayed at the La Quinta in Portland again. It's a great hotel to stay if you have pets traveling with you. They stay for free!!
Rooms are clean and basic, with a breakfast in the morning.

I stayed at the La Quinta on New Year's Eve, in order to attend a concert in downtown Portland. I found it to be a very good value, especially for New Year's Eve (under $100). For the price point, La Quinta certainly delivers.

The hotel appeared to be recently renovated: flat-screen tvs, newer furniture, linens, etc. Free breakfast and parking. Outdoor pool (not open in December, obviously). We were able to walk to the downtown area - it's about a mile - but the free parking allows you to easily come and go as you please.

I stayed on the first floor, which may be a bit too loud for people who are sensitive to noise (keep in mind, it was NYE). However, the upper floors might also be a better option.

The sink is located outside of the rest of the bathroom. I prefer to have everything in one washroom, but it didn't bother me too much and I expected the set-up given the price point.

I had minimal interaction with staff - just check in/out and passing in the hall. It was all pleasant, and check-in was extremely fast.

Room Tip: Request an upper floor if you are a light sleeper.

Although I miss living on the West End when I am here (I used to have family with whom I stayed, and love this peninsula), there is no better "value" hotel than this. It is clean, there is complimentary breakfast, and other than the occasional train passing and, as others note, loud heater, it also has two double sized beds to deal with potential insomnia issues. I have stayed at the Holiday Inn on Spring Street and found it rather dreary. I have appreciated the Hilton Garden Inn on Commercial Street but feel like it was a special treat, even with the discount that we got (and I did not like the valet parking situation there). Therefore I am back here for a few nights in one of the most charming towns in New England to enjoy the amazing Winter Lights, listen to Christmas Carol singers, and be in a Christmas Pageant myself. Be careful with the WiFi. I hear that if there is no password (and I feel like there used to be), people can "spy" on you, particularly during important matters like banking.

Room Tip: I have only one time second-guessed the room that they chose (bad internet connection), but that was...

We stayed here prior to an early morning flight. The rooms, hallways and lobby were clean and more than adequate for the modest price we paid. If you stay here you can leave your car for up to 14 days. This saved us enough to pay for the hotel and to top it off the shuttle service to the airlort is friendly and free!

Room was clean, breakfast was good, didn't sleep that great because of the loud heater and highway traffic outside the window. In a shadier part of town.

At anything over $80 a night, I wouldn't bother. At $80 or under you'll find you're getting your money's worth...but you're also getting what you paid for.

Pros
- Comfortable bed
- Clean room
- Quick drive (8-10 mins) to downtown Portland

Cons
- Shower with barely any water pressure
- The world's absolutely slowest internet connection. Don't expect to get anything more useful than basic web-surfing and email.
- Not walking distance from anything interesting. The hotel is across from an industrial plant for Hood milk.

Room Tip: The shower pressure is awful so I'd recommend a lower floor.

Wasn't really poor, but at best, medocore. It did have a fridge and microwave in the room and this was a plus for us. Room not spotless, but not exactly dirty either. Bed was comfortable, couldn't have the breakfast, due to food allergies ( I need gluten free) I guess we got what we paid for.
