We have dined twice at Bonobo in Portland, Maine. It is located in the West End...check the hours online as they are not open every day. Once you step in...you can see how eclectic it is...in the best sense of the word. I felt as if I was in Paris in a little out of the way bistro...interesting decor, vintage items, twinkling lights...very nice atmosphere. They even have a bar for patrons to sit and have a drink. Each time here, it was during the lunch hour (up to 2 p.m.) and we partook of their lunch special...two fresh salads and a pizza for $20. Their unsweetened iced tea is so good (very different) that I have purchased the tea leaves where the restaurant gets them on MunjoyHill. We got the Pizza Margherita and the Pepperoni...both delicious...not greasy! They do gluten free items as well. The restrooms were extremely clean and decorated in vintage style. We are eager to return to Bonobo...it was a great experience, both times!

They make a fine pie here. They have some unique toppings that work very well. My two favorites are "Farm" with pork sausage, mozzarella, roasted onions, oregano & red sauce and "Taleggio" with smoked tomatoes, taleggio cheese, smoked tomato sauce, leeks & arugula. These are good wood fired real pizza, this isn't fast food junk. They have a good selection of beer on tap including local brews.

Bonobo has tantalizing gourmet pizza combinations- you can't go wrong- there are no bad pizzas here! Great location, as well, in the West End.

The pizza tastes pretty good and the Caesar salad was delicious but we went in with 2 hungry middle schoolers at around 6:30 pm on a Thursday night and had to wait nearly an hour to get 2 pizzas. Worse, the server neither offered us some free rolls to chew on while we waited, nor took anything off our bill for the inconvenience. No way to retain customers.

Last sunday after se a terific play at Portland Stage we were somewhat at a los for where to eat as the lay ended at 3.30. Soembody suggested Bonobo and we all jumped at the thought of some pizza. Normally I don't like pepperoni pizza, but at Bonobo the ingredients were sooooo god I could have eaten the whole pie but then I would not have had room for the Marley and the Smokey which were also terrific.
Prices were good, nice beer list and terrific service just topped it all off!
Thanks to our terrific waitress!!
