“Great place to start our trip”
Reviewed October 31, 2011

We spent two nights here at the start of an eleven day trip around New England and New York - it was a great place in which to settle into the American way of life. It was relaxing, nicely furnished with a good living room we could use, plus an endless supply of cookies (!), hot drinks when you wanted and of course the famous delicious breakfasts all provided by the helpful Scott and the talented Laura.

Room Tip: Each room is different so each has a different feel. One had a bathroom across the landing. One bene...

Recently, my husband and I spent 3 nights at the Chadwick, and we loved every minute of it. Scot and Laura are gracious hosts and pay attention to every detail in order to make their guests feel comfortable. The breakfasts are absolutely delicious ( the pumpkin Belgian waffles are amazing!), certainly worth getting up for. The Chadwick is lovely, spotless, and comfortable, and we definitely recommend it to anyone who might be visiting Portland, ME.

My husband and I stayed for two nights recently as the beginning part of his birthday trip. We were in the baxtor room and although the bathroom was across a small hallway we did not mind it. The room and bathroom are located in a quiet nook of the house that no one walks by so it was great. Laura is a great host and Scott is a fantastic cook - breakfast both days was delicious and very professionally plated. We were lucky enough to try the pumpkin spiced waffles and the veggie Monte Christo - yum yum yum! The house is spotlessly clean and very well decorated. There is a large DVD library and the living room is welcoming and very comfortable. The inn is located in the west end quiet neighborhood about a 20 minute walk from the old port. We had a car but didn't even use it - we walked everywhere. Portland is definitely a great walking city. We veery much enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this inn to everyone!

Room Tip: The baxtor is in a quiet hallway away from the rest and although the bathroom is across the hall, it...

We were met by Scot at Chadwick's front door. He was cordial and well organized. We were taken on a brief tour of the house with amenities pointed out. A mini-frig with waters, a dining room with gourmet teas, coffee, cookies, snacks, etc. available 24/7, newspapers and magazines made our stay comfortable and homey. The king bed had beautiful linens and was very comfortable. Scot and Laura prepared gourmet (honestly) breakfasts every morning. The meals were innovative and delicious. We cancelled another reservation and grabbed our room for a second night! I hope to be able to return. Thanks.

It's not often you read fantastic reviews of a place and are then still blown away when you arrive, but this is true of the Chadwick. Scot and Laura are genuinely lovely hosts and the room and other amenities are amazing. Absolutely everything is of the highest quality and spotlessly clean and mega-comfortable. We walked into the town centre (about 20 mins) for an evening meal and Scot was so helpful, giving us a map and excellent recommendations. Breakfast was truly the described 'gourmet' affair, delicious and beautifully presented. Laura was friendly and attentive; we were only sorry we could not stay forever!

For a B&B the Chadwick had the feel of a five star hotel. It was such a shame that we were only there for one night and couldn't benefit more from the luxurious surroundings. The attention to detail was second to none. We stayed in the Abbott Room, there was everything there you could possibly want, and it's true what the other reviews say, the bed was so comfy. The breakfast was 1st class. It wasn't as close to the centre of Portland as I thought it was, but it wasn't a problem, we walked down in the evening for a meal and got a taxi back. I would recommend anyone to stay at the Chadwick. Five star accommodation with all the personable touches of a B&B. Lynn, Leicester England
