A real jem in the heart of Portland. Portland Art Museum has a wonderful collection, well worth a visit. Didn't expect that much from a small city (I'm a NYC girl), but was pleasantly impressed.Free admission on Friday nights too. Way to go, Portland!

“The Best!”
Reviewed August 22, 2012

We stopped in here on the way to Boothbay Harbor. This is a really great art museum with some terrific displays. We really enjoyed their exhibet "The Normandy Coast" .They had a discount for Vets. Our Triple A book said 1 hour minimum for a visit, we ended up taking at least 2.5 hours to see most of it. Be warned parking is a bear, but the museum is well worth the trouble.

An easy to navigate, intimate museum that can easily be incorporated to a day's visit to Portland. Take a break from shopping and site-seeing to check out the exhibits.

“A gem of an art museum!”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

The Portland Museum of Art is not to be missed. They have a number of Winslow Homer paintings, and several excellent impressionist paintings, including landscapes---I didn't even know Degas did landscapes! They also have a Rodin bust of Victor Hugo. In August, when I was there, they had a special exhibit of Impressionist paintings done on the Normandy Coast by vacationing impressionists---beautiful! On the first floor, the museum has an excellent cafe.

“A wonderful local museum with excellent docents”
Reviewed August 17, 2012

Portland Museum has a wonderful collection, well worth a visit on a sunny or rainy Portland day. Docents are knowledgeable about the collection as well as the history of the museum and its varied architecture, which includes an attached 19th century mansion.
