Owner description: Monhegan Boat Line has provided year round ferry service to Monhegan Island for nearly 100 years. The Laura B and Elizabeth Ann offer three trips daily during the summer. Coastal Discovery Cruises are also available. The Puffin/Nature cruise visits Eastern Egg Rock after the captain hauls a lobster trap in Port Clyde. The Lighthouse Cruise views four lighthouses, including two only visible from sea or air. Scenic sunset cruises can include a boiled lobster dinner.

We used Monhegan Boat Line after the boat line closest to us wouldn't accept us because we hadn't reserved 24 hours to our departure. Not a problem with MBL! They were super friendly on the phone and in person when picking up our tickets. The captain and crew were very friendly and informative. We took the 10:30 boat to Monhegan Island and the 4:30 return. There are 2 bathrooms on the boat, and you can chose to sit up top (we did as it was sunny and gorgeous) or below. I saw in a previous post that the seats up top didn't have cushions, but they did the day we rode. Also, for people not from ME, no matter how warm it is on land, it WILL get chilly on the boat. I had pants on over my shorts and a jacket. Both I removed when we got to the island, but definitely needed on the boat. I would recommend reservations if you are going during peak season. I was surprised by how many people there were in late Sept. Anyway, highly recommend!!

Follow the complete, accurate and easy directions on the Monhegan Boat Line site. Remember that this is the portal to the ocean, so bring layered clothing for the trips. Not recommended for "landlubbers," even if the crossing is 'smooth'. Be sure to reserve ahead for peak season service.

We were originally scheduled for the 7am departure on the 'mail boat' and since it was raining, changed it to 10:30am. That was lucky because the 'mail boat' doesn't have much covered seating. The 10:30am ferry is much larger and offered both covered and topside seating. The trip takes about an hour. Seats upstairs are not padded so if you have little natural cushioning on your tush, you might want to sit on a jacket or something. The ferry was on time and the ride was fine. It would be great if they'd add a wildlife expert to make the time go faster.

Had been trying to do this cruise for several years and finally went. Got there an hour early and was told to go out on the dock and wait for the boat to be called. Sat there and waited and not until the boat ramp had been removed and leaving dock did we know we were waiting at the wrong boat. There were two on the dock and one was going to Monhegan the other the lighthouse cruise. We got on and had a wonderful time. Great history, facts, surrounding areas etc. Staff were very friendly and the boat very comfortable. Checked 4 more lighthouses off my list. Recommend as it is a good price and a great trip.

I went on the Lighthouse cruise and thoroughly enjoyed it. You get a great view of the lighthouses, and a wonderful history of the area, the boat, the surrounding islands, and, of course, the lighthouses. Besides being informative, the crew were very friendly and helpful. We even stopped to haul lobster, which they explained all about. That was an added treat. I would definitely go on another cruise with this boat line.
