Owner description: Monhegan Boat Line has provided year round ferry service to Monhegan Island for nearly 100 years. The Laura B and Elizabeth Ann offer three trips daily during the summer. Coastal Discovery Cruises are also available. The Puffin/Nature cruise visits Eastern Egg Rock after the captain hauls a lobster trap in Port Clyde. The Lighthouse Cruise views four lighthouses, including two only visible from sea or air. Scenic sunset cruises can include a boiled lobster dinner.

This boat line in Port Clyde, Maine, offers several daiuly trips to the Island of Monhegan as well as narrated Puffin Cruise, Lighthouse Cruise and also a sunset cruise. Good value, great ride and comfortable trip. Easy to buy tickets, cute gift shop and friendly and knowlegable crew on the boat.

I have taken this boat line a number of times, several times out to Monhegan Island, and a couple of times on the Puffin tour. Even when it's a bit hot on the shore, it's wonderfully cool on the boat. You can't get on a puffin island, so bring good binoculars to see them from the boat. You'll see lot of other wildlife on that tour. You don't see that wildlife on the Monhegan Island boat because the purpose is to get you out and back quickly (a bit more than an hour) to the Island. The Island is a great place to visit, lots of hiking trails, steep scenic cliffs, woods, private rocky beaches. Art galleries as well in the small 'village' near the boat dock.

The Monhegan Boat Line has a great history. The boats are in great shape and the tours are so nice. The Puffin Cruise is delightful, as is the sunset cruise. It's a $30 tour price, (when we went) but it's nice to be on the water. We saw puffins, seals, harbor porpoises, bald eagles, and a host of other sea birds. Although these animals and birds are not unusual in Port Clyde, for those of us who don't live at the ocean it's always fun to see these creatures! TAKE YOUR BINOCULARS to be able to see better. Take a sweatshirt even if it is 90 degrees on land. It can get chilly and windy on board the boats. Sunscreen is good for those of us that are pale!
One thing I don't like about this is that you have to pay for parking to go on a 2-1/2 hour cruise.

Took the puffin sunset cruise, it was worth every penny. Saw puffins, osprey, and many other birds. We also saw seals, a pair of dolphins, and a beautiful sunset. We were close enough to tell what each type of animal was, however binoculars allow you to see them even better. Boat supplied binoculars, for those who didn't bring them.

Took the ferry to Monhegan island for a day trip. A great way to spend the day - walking around the island and having a picnic lunch on the rocks overlooking the ocean. We packed a lunch, but could have purchased sandwiches on the island too. A very quaint village and experience.
