Great location for a real Maine experience. Good local sea food served right on the dock. If you have your own boat, you can moor right there and have dinner.

“Real Maine”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

My husband and I thoroughly enjoying eating at the Dip Net. Love sitting by the water and watching all the harbor activity. We like eating here on our return from Monhegan since it's right by the dock. I do agree with others that the food this year was good but not quite what it has been in the past. The sweet potato fries were fantastic, missed the salad with the beets and goat cheese- I'm hopeful they'll bring that back.

“Still a good buy for in-the-rough”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

There are those who assert that one should by-pass Dip Net now that it is part of Linda Bean's (of the LL Bean family) empire. Not me. The restaurant is pretty much unchanged and the kids that serve you are local kids, students, etc. And the lobster is guaranteed Maine lobster at a great price.

We started with mussels in garlicy cream white sauce and clam chowder. The mussels were heavenly...sweet, plump and the sauce was to die for. Plenty of it and the leftover sauce perfect adjunct to the melted butter that came with the lobster. The chowder alleges to be New England style and it WAS white, but some misguided chef had added oregano. Just so you know...I am a New Englander by birth and REAL chowders must start with diced and fried salt pork bits, then onion, potatoes, clam (or fish or lobster) broth and then the shellfish/fish added at the end. NO tomatoes, no oregano or other spices than salt (not needed if you use salt pork). No thickeners. This failed the "tradition" test.

We split an order of a pair of boiled lobsters for $22. Great buy and they were perfect, as simply boiled (or steamed) Maine lobster pretty much has to be. The lobster came with nice cole slaw. We topped this all off with a yummy slice of blueberry pie made with the tiny Maine blueberries that I loved picking (in August) in my youth. A la mode, of course. Good, flaky "homemade" pastry.

All in all a satisfying, in-the-rough experience at the dock just outside the Port Clyde General Store. If you are heading out to (or back from) Monhegan via the ferry next door...save time for a Dip Net lunch or dinner..

“Oh Linda Bean you should be ashamed!”
Reviewed September 6, 2012

Service was sloooow and the lobster roll an embarrassment -- little lobster, funky mayo (or was it Miracle Whip?), inappropriate seasonings and 3 out of four diners had indigestion. Oh what has become of the old Dip Net?

“Bad services and flys”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

Not much to say, the service was terrible. Our waitress took 8-10 minutes to stop by during our lunch, than disappeared for another 10 minutes before taking our order. Another long break and the food arrived. Standard fair, just ok - nothing special. Flies were a real problem. Wife and I were bitten multiple times. There may be so many of them because they pour left over beverages through the floor boards. Not a good idea. Not a lot of options, but you take a chance with this place’s service.
