This is a great place to take children to explore and to see the seals, the ocean and of course to explore the fort and learn some history while you are there.

“Nice Little Day Trip”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

Once you've see the fort and climbed through it, there's not much here accept for the beach and Restaurant. There is an outhouse, no fancy plumbing here. But, if you want a little more of an adventure, as you are heading out in your car, take the road to the right going around the bay. You'll come to another parking lot, and then you can climb to the top of the mountain. There are prison cells and gun turrets located along the trail that offer stopping spots and a tower at the top. Climb to the top and look at the view. You need to take advantage of this beach ASAP as it is deteriorating due to natural causes.

“Interesting history of one of the oldest forts”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

Can you walk around inside this fort and climb around on multiple levels. When the tide is out, you can walk around the entire fort. no charge to get in. Lots of great history.

Been to this historic fort many times over the last 30 years both with my children and grandchildren. This weekend found out that there is another fantastic site to visit just above Fort Popham (Fort Baldwin) never have seen this before in any trip there just stumbled across it this weekend its a great addition to the fort and close walking distance.. no signs just a road sign stating Fort Baldwin Rd, dead end road small parking lot . Also great meal at Spinney's Rest with excellant service .

“Worth at least a drive by”
Reviewed September 7, 2012

Beautiful views! Very small, won't take more than 30 mins. Full of historical info. Small parking lot, great swimming beach, a few picnic tables, outhouses. No dogs allowed in the fort itself, but they can in the park area outside it.
