A charmed destination and pastoral setting detached from the rest of the world! Days spent within this blissful and elegant inn encourage the guests to while away the hours without a set plan. The innkeeper John is the most gracious host who inspires his visitors to seize the day after a delightful breakfast. My husband and I spent six lovely days at the 1774 Inn and have already planned to return. Hopefully we will get to meet Jackie.

By some miracle we found 1774. A B&B with beautiful spacious rooms, perfect beds, lovely antiques, a gorgeous view, a delightful array of outdoor activities close by, or a welcome to hang and relax, the most amazing breakfast and perfect Inn Keepers, interested and interesting and knowledgeable of the area but not overbearing. We couldn't have imagined a better place to stay.

Everything to want from an Inn -
*Comfortable and clean with stylish, fresh decor.
*Great location outside of Bath, close to incredible Reid & Popham State Parks.
*Owners are a delight - welcoming and hospitable while giving guests their own space. *The lawn overlooking Kennebec River is an extra bonus! Plant yourself on the white Adirondack chairs for the evening and take in the view with a glass of wine.

Highly recommended!

What a stunningly beautiful place that we were lucky enough to find. The view of the river from the house and yard can't be put into words; it's something only to be experienced. I think I'll always remember the timeless feeling of sitting with my wife on our honeywoon on the sloping green lawn, drinking a glass of good champagne and watching the river scene unfold in front of us on its own time.

An amazing home/inn/setting......so quiet, so clean, so historic...yet so 21st century. The inn is listed and the owners innkeepers should be! They bend over backwards to try and make your stay memorable. The inn is a wonderful old Phippsburg home and has many different rooms you can stay in. The beds and linens were divine, the bathrooms more humble of the rooms I crept into to have a discrete look. Our room the Woodshed was an.....old woodshed! It overlooked the water, and the early morning brought....SILENCE! Wonderful....no noise, little light...thus we snoozed for ages.....and did other things in complete privacy.....but none of that is your business!!!!!

The breakfast time is flexible, the food served satisfying and fresh. We had fresh scrambled eggs with ham mixed in, started with greek yoghurt and fresh berries...but you could choose from many items. Now onto the tea.....being a fellow innkeeper (who's standards are demanding!!!!) and BRITISH....I am VERY demanding on my morning cuppa....and they delivered!

The home is impressive and Phippsburg and Bath in general are not like Camden....over developed and touristy. You can cycle from their inn to Popham beach and fort...where there is a great restaurant, not fussy, serving fresh lobster (out of the tank in front of you!) and a plethora of other dishes.

John & Jackie the innkeepers try to please in a quiet and relaxed way, are not over burdening, and take pride in their home....but do welcome one to use many parts of it. The setting overlooks the water and is next to a church....I could go on....but won't....just get yourselves booked in when you are 'doing' the Maine coast.

Last year, my wife and I stayed here on our wedding night and have nothing but praise for John, Jackie, and the 1774 Inn. My wife's family owns a cottage in the area, and we were so impressed that it was a given that we would spend our first anniversary there as well. The Inn is gorgeous- you feel like you belong in a magazine at each stage of your stay, whether in your beautifully appointed room, strolling the grounds looking over the Kennebec, or at breakfast in one of the formal dining rooms. As for John and Jackie, they just couldn't be any more pleasant. It seems like they were meant to be Inn keepers- genuinely interested in your plans and background, full of great recommendations, and just great people to be with. I'd recommend the 1774 Inn to anyone seeking a relaxing, authentic, beautiful spot in Maine.

This is my first review and I could not be happier to write the following. I would love to be able to be at The 1774 at this very moment, as my brief time spent there was amazing. As my husband and I were talking about it, we decided that there are not words to describe how truly valuable this establishment is.

The history and character of the house is so charming. Each room is decorated so elegantly and comfortably that it’s not overstated and you feel like you belong so perfectly. Our room was ideal and our bed was very comfortable… I loved that the frame was brought over from England! Jackie has a remarkable talent for design!

John was above and beyond our expectations. From the very greeting at the door, helping carry our luggage in, the tour of the house, and a fountain of valuable information (the history of this charming inn, the best local places to eat, etc). We were hesitant of where to visit during one of our days there and took John’s advice and had a lovely day!

Our breakfast was delicious and above reproach!

We would have loved to stay for weeks on end, but reality called us back!

Thanks for providing such a lovely place John & Jackie!
