“Wonderful time at The 1774 Inn”
Reviewed August 13, 2012

We were greeted by John and Jackie, the innkeepers, and made an immediate connection. Beautiful accommodations - loved the house and learning about its history. Lots of things to do in the area with many drop dead gorgeous locations. We enjoyed the breakfasts and the conversation with the other guests. Just great!

My husband and I spent 3 wonderful, relaxing nights in this inn. We were looking for a quiet place to stay on the Maine coast, off the beaten track but near interesting cities and places to visit. We struck gold and will recommend to all. The hosts, John and Jackie, were gracious and accommodating, the breakfasts delicious and nutritious, and the house itself a pleasure to explore and feel at home in. The location is near Bath, Brunswick, Popham Beach, and not far from the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. John's recommendations for lunch and dinner were spot on. And yes there really is a resident eagle on the river. We will return.

Room Tip: Can't imagine guests would go wrong with any room choice.

We had a great time at the 1774 Inn. Our daughter, son-in-law and grandkids were camping down the road at Hermit Island, and we decided to visit them while staying in luxury.
The Inn is delightful, the innkeepers are great, the breakfasts are outstanding, and the area is wonderful. We will be back.

Lovely stay.  John and Jackie are delightful.  We spent a wonderfully relaxing extra long weekend here in the Woodshed Room which provided plenty of space indoors, a covered porch that got substantial use in sun and rain, and an unbeatable view.  More than ample breakfasts.  Easy to get to Brunswick/Harpswell, Bath, Boothbay, etc.  We would definitely visit again.

My wife and I had a very nice time at the Inn, which has a fascinating history. Breakfast was great, and the grounds are well kept and beautiful. The location is outside of town enough where it is quiet, but a very short drive to the beach or to downtown Bath for shopping. John and Jackie are wonderful hosts and we would absolutely recommend this stay to friends and family!

Extremely pleasant stay at this comfortable and distinctive inn, where guests are welcome to roam the common rooms and corridors of this old mansion. Co-host is a John Cleese-like chap, complete with the humour and chattisness (and without Fawlty Towers rudeness!), at just the right balance of interaction and aloofness.
Conveniently located near Popham Beach State Park.
Very quiet, even in the wonderful McCobb room with 4 windows overlooking the street. Guests awake to the song of birds.

Room Tip: The less expensive Gold Room has a low ceiling and could feel a little cramped for adult guests. Lar...

This was a great place to stay. John The owner helped us find trials and parks only known by the locals. He even called to make sure we were okay after a storm came through. The property is great we made one morning of watching seals in the river from seats on the lawn.
